Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing: Procedure: Notes
- Transmission installed
Vehicles with a TFSI Engine
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER [CZRA] or AIR FILTER [CNTC]
-- Remove the noise insulation -1-. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Loosen the hose clamp -1-, remove the air duct hose from the charge air cooler.
Ignore -2-.
-- Vehicles with a left auxiliary cooler: Free up the coolant hose -3-.
-- Free up the wiring harness -1 and 2- from the air guide pipe.
-- Loosen the screw-type clamp -4-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the air guide pipe.
Vehicles with TDI Engine
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER [CZRA] or AIR FILTER [CNTC]
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Loosen the clamp -2-, and remove the air guide pipe -1-.
All Vehicles
-- Remove the clip -2-.
-- Push the lock washer -3- upward and remove -arrow-.
-- Remove the selector lever cable from the transmission selector lever and pull it out of the cable bracket.
For better illustration the installed location is shown from behind.
Ignore -1-.
Danger of damaging the selector lever cable.
- Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
-- Remove nut -arrow-.
-- Carefully pry the lever -A- off the selector shaft.
The selector shaft running surface could get damaged.
- Position the screwdriver.
-- Pierce seal with a small screwdriver and pull out.
-- Coat outer circumference and sealing lips of new seal with transmission fluid.
-- Fill the space between the sealing- and dust lip -arrow- half way with sealing grease; sealing grease.
-- Drive in the seal using a 15 mm socket -1- until stop, while doing this do not tilt the seal.
- The closed side of the seal -arrow- faces toward the outside.
-- Place the gearshift lever -A- on the shaft and fasten bolt -arrow-.
- The transmission selector lever only fits to the splines in one position.
-- Press the selector lever cable onto the transmission selector lever and then adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .
