Bevel Box, Removing: Procedure
-- Remove the rear noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the pendulum support. Refer to PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CZRA] or PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [CNTC] .
Vehicles with a TFSI Engine
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and remove the right drive axle heat shield.
Vehicles with TDI Engine
-- Remove EGR cooler. Refer to EGR COOLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
All Vehicles
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.
-- Remove the nut -1- for the coupling rod -3- from the right of the stabilizer bar -2-.
-- Mark the position of the nuts -arrows- for the right ball joint, and remove them.
-- Remove the right ball joint from the transverse link.
-- Remove right drive axle from bevel box. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Tie up the drives axle.
Pay attention that the drive axle surface protection is not damaged.
-- Move the right suspension strut to the outside and support it with the :2024A/1 as illustrated.
There is the risk of an accident due to loose support parts.
- Secure the securing pin and control arm with the plug connector -arrow- and nut -1-.
-- Mark the position of the flexible disc and the bevel box flange shaft to each other for later use.
-- Using a lever to counterhold the triangular flange, remove the driveshaft from the bevel box -arrows-.
-- Press engine/transmission assembly forward slightly and remove driveshaft from bevel box.
Risk of damaging sealing ring -arrow - in driveshaft flange.
- Press driveshaft horizontally as far back and to the right side of the vehicle as possible.
If seal is damaged, driveshaft must be replaced.
-- Disconnect the connector -arrow- on the Oil Level Thermal Sensor -G266-.
The illustration shows a vehicle with TDI engine.
Vehicles with a TFSI Engine
-- Remove bolts -1 and 2- and the bevel box bracket.
Vehicles with TDI Engine
-- Disconnect the connector -1-.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow-, and push the Heater Support Pump -V488- aside.
-- Remove bolts -1 and 2- and the bevel box bracket.
All Vehicles
-- Remove right flange shaft bolt with :T10107 by installing two bolts in the flange and counter holding flange shaft with assembly lever.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- that connect the bevel box to the S tronic transmission.
-- Tighten the :3300A on the subframe.
-- Place the :3300A spindle on the transmission, as show in the illustration.
There is a risk of damaging the fan shroud.
- Do not push the engine/transmission assembly too far forward.
-- Only push the engine/transmission assembly with the :3300A spindles so far forward until the bevel box can be removed.
-- Carefully press bevel box off the S tronic transmission while protecting it against falling through.
-- Remove the bevel box together with the flange shaft.
