Backrest Cover And Cushion, Removing And Installing: Removing

WARNING:
  • Follow all pyrotechnic components safety precautions, refer to PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
  • Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Remove the front seat, refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Fasten the front seat on the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture :VAS6136  , refer to FRONT SEAT, MOUNTING ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR .

-- Vehicles with head area heater: Remove the head area heater, refer to HEAD AREA HEATER VENTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the backrest cover, refer to BACKREST COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, STANDARD/SPORT SEAT .

-- Remove the seat side trim on the tunnel side, refer to SEAT SIDE TRIM ON THE TUNNEL SIDE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the seat side sill panel trim, refer to SILL PANEL SEAT SIDE TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Free up the wiring harness for the side airbag and the backrest heating (depending on the version) from the seat pan, refer to FRONT SEAT WIRE ROUTING .

NOTE:

The following illustrations do not show the backrest.

-- Disengage the lower cover -1- from the backrest hinge trim -arrows-.

-- Pull the cover tabs -1 and 3- upward -arrows- and disengage the beading -2- on the cover.

-- Detach the lower moldings -4- from the backrest frame.

-- Disengage the cover clamping strip -1- from the backrest frame -arrow-.

-- Remove the backrest release trim, refer to BACKREST RELEASE TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disengage the hook -arrows- of the cover with the cushion from the backrest release -2-.

WARNING:

Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

-- Release the connector lock -2- with a small screwdriver -arrow-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the side airbag igniter.

-- Carefully push the cover with the cushion in the area of the side airbag as far forward as possible.

-- Remove the bolt -4-.

-- Disengage the side airbag -1- with the hooks -2- from the backrest frame -3- and remove.

-- Vehicle versions with pocket: Remove the side airbag -2- from the pocket sewn into the cover -1-.

-- Remove the cover -1- with cushion -2- carefully under the backrest forward -arrows-.

-- Remove the cushion and cover from the backrest frame, depending on the version guide the wiring harness for the backrest heating.
