Transmission Side Sealing Flange, Removing And Installing, Version A (Air Side Sealing Lip): Installing

TIP: 

Check the expiration date of the Silicone Sealant.

The sealing flange must be installed within five minutes after applying the silicone sealant.

To prevent contamination of the lubricating system with sealant residue, place a clean cloth over the open part of the oil pan.

-- Remove any remaining sealant from the cylinder block using, for example, a rotating plastic brush.

• Replace the sealing flange after removal.

-- Cover open engine components.

-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block -1- using a flat-blade scraper or a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean any oil and grease off of the sealing surfaces and crankshaft journal.

• Do not apply any oil or grease to the sealing lip of the shaft seal in the sealing flange.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 2 mm).

-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surface on the sealing flange, as shown.

-- Remove the :T20097  .

• Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
• The sealing flange must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.

-- Position the :T20097  on the crankshaft journal -A-.

-- Slide the sealing flange over the :T20097  onto the crankshaft journal.

-- Tighten the sealing flange.

• After installing the sealing flange, the sealant must harden for approximately 30 minutes. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- Install the dual mass flywheel (refer to FLYWHEEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ) or the drive plate (refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ).

-- Check the oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL .
