Camshafts, Removing, Used Camshafts, Reinstalling On Cylinder Bank 1 (Right): Removing
-- Remove the camshaft timing chain for the intake camshaft. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
-- Check the camshaft "TDC" position:
- The intake camshaft -1- must be able to be stopped with the :T40060 .
- The bolt -arrow- in the Camshaft Adjustment Pins:T40060 must be perpendicular to the center axis of the camshaft.
- The exhaust camshaft -2- must be positioned so that the groove -arrow B- runs parallel above the joint -arrow A- between the thrust bearing and the bearing cap.
-- Mount the :T40096 onto the teeth of the intake camshaft so that one arm of the clamping tool engages in one sprocket half.
- The wider arm must engage into the wider half of the sprocket.
-- Tension the tensioning tool with the thumb wheel until the tooth faces align.
-- Loop a cable tie -arrows- on the right and left around the thrust bearing and the bearing cap and tighten them.
The camshafts can be removed together with the camshaft bearings with the help of the cable ties. This prevents the components from becoming interchanged with one another.
-- Remove the :T40060 .
-- Screw in two camshaft chain sprocket bolts with five turns each into the threaded openings of the camshaft as shown in the illustration.
-- Attach the :T10172 with the :T10172/5 to both of the bolts and turn the camshafts approximately 30° counterclockwise -arrow- until the groove -arrow A- in the camshaft points vertically towards the cylinder head sealing surfaces -arrows B-.
There is a risk of causing damage to the valve.
- Do not turn the camshaft further than indicated.
-- Loosen the bearing cap bolts in the following sequence: -12 to 1-.
Be careful of the roller rocker lever and the hydraulic adjuster when removing the camshafts.
-- Carefully remove the bearing cap with the camshafts.
Never interchange the components.
- Do not open the cable tie until after it is reinstalled.
