Camshafts, Removing, Used Camshafts, Reinstalling On Cylinder Bank 1 (Right): Installing

• Secure crankshaft in "TDC" position using :3242  .

-- Mount the :T40096  onto the teeth of the intake camshaft so that one arm of the clamping tool engages in one sprocket half.

• The wider arm must engage into the wider half of the sprocket.

-- Tension the tensioning tool with the thumb wheel until the tooth faces align.

-- Lay the camshafts and the camshaft bearings that are tied up with cable ties -arrows- onto the cylinder head.

-- Check the camshaft "TDC" position:

• The intake camshaft -1- must be able to be stopped with the :T40060  .
• The bolt -arrow- in the :T40060  must be perpendicular to the center axis of the camshaft.
• The exhaust camshaft -2- must be positioned so that the groove -arrow A- runs parallel above the joint -arrow B- between the thrust bearing and the bearing cap.

-- Remove the : T40060  .

-- Screw in two camshaft chain sprocket bolts with five turns each into the threaded openings of the camshaft as shown in the illustration.

-- Attach the :T10172  with the :T10172/5  to both of the bolts and turn the camshafts approximately 30° counterclockwise in direction of -arrow- until the groove -arrow A- in the camshaft points vertically towards the cylinder head sealing surfaces -arrows B-.

-- Check the installed location of the alignment sleeves:

• Both alignment sleeves -arrows- must be inserted into the openings on the thrust bearing "IV".
• The alignment sleeves must engage in the openings in the cylinder head.

-- Install the bolts -1 to 12- in the bearing cap.

-- Install the :T40311  on the mounting bracket -arrows- for the tension claws, as shown in the illustration.

-- Tighten the bearing cap bolts. .

-- Remove the :T40311  .

-- Attach the :T10172  and the :T10172/5  to both of the bolts and turn the camshafts approximately 30° clockwise -arrow- until the groove -arrow A- in the camshaft is above the opening -arrow B- for the :T40060  .

-- Check the camshaft "TDC" position:

• The intake camshaft -1- must be able to be stopped with the :T40060  .
• The bolt -arrow- in the :T40060  must be perpendicular to the center axis of the camshaft.
• The exhaust camshaft -2- must be positioned so that the groove -arrow A- runs parallel above the joint -arrow B- between the thrust bearing and the bearing cap.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following: 

-- Remove the :T40096  .

-- Install the camshaft timing chains. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
