Pinpoint Test K : The Audio Output Does Not Reduce When The Parking Aid Tone Sounds
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator and 2017 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- K1 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the network test.
Do the PAM, IPC, ACM and Audio DSP Module (if equipped) pass the network test?
Yes GO to K2. No REFER to Module Communications Network . - K2 CHECK FOR CORRECT PARKING AID SYSTEM OPERATION
- Apply the parking brake.
- Place an object behind the vehicle within the range of the parking aid sensors.
- Place the transmission in REVERSE (R).
- Verify the parking aid tone is sounding and the ACM volume is reduced.
Is the parking aid tone sounding and audio volume reduced?
Yes The system is operating correctly at this time. The audio volume cutback may have faulted due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. No GO to K3. - K3 CHECK THE PAM MUTE REQUEST
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM DataLogger.
- Monitor the parking aid mute request PID (MUTE_STAT) while the parking aid tone is sounding.
Does the PID read "Active" while the parking aid tone is sounding?
Yes For vehicle without THX ® or Sony ® audio, GO to K5.For vehicle with THX ® or Sony ® audio, GO to K6. No GO to K4. - K4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION
- Disconnect the PAM connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to Parking Aid Module (PAM) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. - K5 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all the ACM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the ACM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new ACM. Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment Systems article for the procedure. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - K6 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO DSP MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all the audio DSP module connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the audio DSP module connectors.
If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new audio DSP module. Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment Systems article for the procedure. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections.
