Pinpoint Test A : A Single Power Window Is Inoperative - LF

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

  1. A1 CHECK THE POWER TO THE WINDOW MOTOR

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: LF Window Power Window Motor C518.
    • Measure the voltage between LF power window motor C518-3 , circuit SBP01 (RD), harness side and ground.

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A2.
    No  VERIFY the BCM fuse 1 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation. If not OK, REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REPAIR the circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. A2 CHECK THE LF WINDOW MOTOR DELAYED ACCESSORY FEED

    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between LF power window motor C518-2 , circuit CBP41 (BU), harness side and ground.

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A3.
    No  VERIFY BCM fuse 32 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation. If not OK, REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REPAIR the circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. A3 CHECK THE LF MOTOR GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between LF power window motor C518-8 , circuit GD143 (BK/VT), harness side and ground.

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  For Expedition, GO to  A4.For Navigator, GO to  A5.
    No  REPAIR the circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. A4 CHECK THE FRONT WINDOW SWITCH TO LF MOTOR FEEDS

    • Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch C504A.
    • Measure the resistance between LF power window motor C518, harness side and master window control switch C504A, harness side using the following chart:
      LF Power Window Motor Circuit Master Window Control Switch
      C518-7 CPW11 (BU/GY) C504A-5
      C518-4 CPW10 (YE/VT) C504A-1
      C518-6 CPW29 (VT/GY) C504A-7

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A7.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. A5 CHECK THE FRONT WINDOW SWITCH TO LF MOTOR FEEDS

    • Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch C535A.
    • Measure the resistance between LF power window motor C518, harness side and master window control switch C535A, harness side using the following chart:
      LF Power Window Motor Circuit Master Window Control Switch
      C518-7 CPW11 (BU/GY) C535A-4
      C518-4 CPW10 (YE/VT) C535A-7
      C518-6 CPW29 (VT/GY) C535A-8

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  For Navigator, GO to  A6.For Expedition, GO to  A7.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. A6 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH

    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between master window control switch C535A-3 , circuit CBP41 (BU), harness side and ground.

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A7.
    No  REPAIR the circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.

  7. A7 CHECK THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH

    • Carry out the window control switch component test. Refer to Component Testing for component testing.

    Did the window control switch pass the component test? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new LF power window motor. REFER to Window Regulator Motor - Front Door . INITIALIZE the LF door window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.
    No  INSTALL a new master window control switch. REFER to Window Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
