PINPOINT TEST AH : No I-CAN Communication, All Modules Are Not Responding

  1. AH1 CHECK THE DLC PINS FOR DAMAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect the diagnostic scan tool cable from the DLC.
    • Inspect the DLC pins 1 and 9 for damage.

    Are DLC pins 1 and 9 OK? 

    Yes  GO to  AH2.
    No  REPAIR the DLC as necessary.
  2. AH2 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTANCE

    • Disconnect: negative battery cable.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AH3.
    No  GO to  AH5.
  3. AH3 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 1, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AH4.
    No  GO to  AH12.
  4. AH4 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Connect: negative battery cable.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the voltages greater than 6 volts? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  AH13.
  5. AH5 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTOR

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AH6.
    No  GO to  AH9.
  6. AH6 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTOR WITH THE IPC DISCONNECTED

    • Disconnect: IPC C220 .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AH7.
    No  GO to  AH8.
  7. AH7 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE IPC AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:

      Mid-level IPC

      High-level IPC

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AH26.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  8. AH8 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE ACM AND THE IPC FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: ACM C290A (SYNC without touchscreen) or C240A (SYNC with touchscreen).
    • Disconnect: IPC C220 .
    • Measure:

      Mid-level IPC, SYNC without touchscreen

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AH23.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  9. AH9 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AH11.
    No  GO to  AH10.
  10. AH10 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE IPC AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  REPAIR the DLC or REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  A capacitor internal to a module may still be draining, causing irregular resistance readings. WAIT 5 minutes. REPEAT the pinpoint test. If concern is still present, REPAIR the circuit.
  11. AH11 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER WITH MODULES DISCONNECTED

    • Measure:

    • Disconnect modules, one at a time until the resistance is greater than 5 ohms:
      • APIM C3342 or C2383 (touchscreen) (if equipped)
      • Audio DSP module C4326A (Sony ®) or C2364A (THX ®) (if equipped)
      • ACM C290A (SYNC without touchscreen) or C240A (SYNC with touchscreen)
      • FCIM C2402 (if equipped)
      • FCDIM C2123 (if equipped)
      • IPC C220
      • Audio RCU module C3077 (if equipped)

    Did the resistance change to greater than 5 ohms with one of the modules disconnected? 

    Yes  For the APIM, GO to  AH21.For the audio DSP module, GO to  AH22.For the ACM, GO to  AH23.For the FCIM, GO to  AH24.For the FCDIM, GO to  AH25.For the IPC, GO to  AH26.For the audio RCU module, GO to  AH27.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT all modules.
  12. AH12 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MODULES DISCONNECTED

    • Measure:

    • Disconnect modules, one at a time until the resistance to ground is greater than 1, 000 ohms:
      • APIM C3342 or C2383 (touchscreen) (if equipped)
      • Audio DSP module C4326A (Sony ®) or C2364A (THX ®) (if equipped)
      • ACM C290A (SYNC without touchscreen) or C240A (SYNC with touchscreen)
      • FCIM C2402 (if equipped)
      • FCDIM C2123 (if equipped)
      • IPC C220
      • Audio RCU module C3077 (if equipped)

    Are the resistances greater than 1, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  For the APIM, GO to  AH21.For the audio DSP module, GO to  AH22.For the ACM, GO to  AH23.For the FCIM, GO to  AH24.For the FCDIM, GO to  AH25.For the IPC, GO to  AH26.For the audio RCU module, GO to  AH27.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT all modules.
  13. AH13 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE IPC DISABLED

    NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

    • Disconnect: BCM fuse 23 (15A).
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test E .
    No  GO to  AH14.
  14. AH14 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE FCIM AND THE FCDIM DISABLED

    NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

    • Disconnect: BCM Fuse 9 (10A).
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  CONNECT all modules. If the vehicle is equipped with a FCDIM, GO to  AH15.If the vehicle is not equipped with a FCDIM, GO to Pinpoint Test J .
    No  If the vehicle is equipped with an audio DSP module, GO to  AH16.If the vehicle is not equipped with audio DSP module, GO to  AH17.
  15. AH15 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE FCDIM DISCONNECTED

    NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

    • Disconnect: FCDIM C2123 (if equipped).
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  CONNECT the module.GO to Pinpoint Test I .
    No  CONNECT the module.GO to Pinpoint Test J .
  16. AH16 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE AUDIO DSP MODULE DISABLED

    NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

    • Disconnect: BCM fuse 5 (20A) and fuse 19 (20A) (THX ® only).
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test M .
    No  GO to  AH17.
  17. AH17 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE APIM DISABLED

    NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

    • Disconnect: BCM fuse 9 (10A).
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test S .
    No  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to  AH18.
  18. AH18 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE ACM DISABLED

    NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

    • Disconnect: BCM fuse 29 (20A).
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test K .
    No  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to  AH19.
  19. AH19 VERIFY VEHICLE EQUIPMENT - AUDIO RCU MODULE

    • Verify the vehicle is equipped with an audio RCU module.

    Is the vehicle equipped with an audio RCU module? 

    Yes  GO to  AH20.
    No  The I-CAN tests within specification. VERIFY the correct operation of the diagnostic scan tool on a known good vehicle.
  20. AH20 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE AUDIO RCU MODULE DISABLED

    NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

    • Disconnect: BCM fuse 2 (15A).
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test L .
    No  INSTALL the removed fuse. The I-CAN tests within specification. VERIFY the correct operation of the diagnostic scan tool on a known good vehicle.
  21. AH21 CHECK THE APIM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, APIM Hardware Testing .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  22. AH22 CHECK THE AUDIO DSP MODULE FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the audio DSP module connectors and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the audio DSP module connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new Audio DSP module. REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems - Sony Audio System (Sony ®). REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems - THX Audio System (THX ®).
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  23. AH23 CHECK THE ACM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the ACM connectors and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the ACM connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new ACM. Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment Systems article for the procedure.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  24. AH24 CHECK THE FCIM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the FCIM connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the FCIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new FCIM. Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment Systems article for the procedure.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  25. AH25 CHECK THE FCDIM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the FCDIM connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the FCDIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new FCDIM. REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems - 4.2-Inch (107 mm) Screen, AM/FM CD Sync , Information and Entertainment Systems - Sony Audio System or Information and Entertainment Systems - THX Audio System .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  26. AH26 CHECK THE IPC FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the IPC connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern,
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  27. AH27 CHECK THE AUDIO RCU MODULE FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the audio RCU module connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the rear audio RCU module connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new audio RCU module. Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment Systems article for the procedure.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
