Pinpoint Test K : The Delayed Accessory Is Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

  1. K1 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH OPERATION

    • Open and close the front doors. Verify the interior lights turn on when the doors are open, and off when the doors are closed.

Do the interior lights operate normally?

Yes  For Expedition, GO to  K2.For Navigator, GO to  K3.
No  REFER to Interior Lighting to diagnose the interior lighting and door ajar switches.
  2. K2 CHECK FOR A SHORT TO GROUND IN POWER WINDOW SYSTEM

    • Disconnect: BCM Circuit Breaker 48 (30A).
    • Ignition ON.
    • Install a fused jumper wire in place of BCM circuit breaker 48 (30A).
    • Attempt to operate each individual power window in both directions from the master window control switch as well as from each passenger door window control switch.

Did the jumper wire fuse open during the test?

Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. REPAIR the circuit. DE-INITIALIZE, then INITIALIZE the LF (and RF for Navigator) power window motor. REFER to Window Motor Initialization . TEST the system for normal operation.
No  If the power windows did operate with the fused jumper wire in place, INSTALL a new circuit breaker. TEST the system for normal operation. If the power windows did not operate with the fused jumper wire in place, GO to  K3.
  3. K3 CHECK THE ACCESSORY DELAY RELAY

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Accessory Delay Relay.
    • Carry out the accessory delay relay component test.Refer to Component Testing for component testing.

Did the accessory delay relay pass the component test?

Yes  For Expedition, GO to  K4.For Navigator, GO to  K6.
No  INSTALL a new accessory delay relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. K4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH

    • Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch C504A.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between master window control switch C504A-2 , circuit CBP47 (GN/BU), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

Yes  INSTALL a new master window control switch. REFER to Window Control Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.
    No  GO to  K5.
  5. K5 CHECK FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH AND THE BCM

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: BCM C2280D.
    • For Expedition, measure the resistance between master window control switch C504A-2 , circuit CBP47 (GN/BU), harness side and BCM C2280D-27 , circuit CBP48 (GY/YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

    Yes  GO to  K6.
No  REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. K6 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect all BCM connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all BCM connectors and all other previously disconnected window components. Make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  Refer to BCM Hardware Testing . TEST the system for normal operation.
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
