DTC P0A38-257: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit Low; DTC P0A39-259: Generator Temperature Sensor Circuit High [08/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) See step   3 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MOTOR TEMP NO2) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      -40°C (-40°F) A
      215°C (419°F) B
      Same as actual temperature C
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   5 

    C → See step   9 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the D12 generator temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect terminals 4 (GMT) and 9 (GMTG) of vehicle side connector D12 of the generator temperature sensor.

    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    6. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Generator Temperature Sensor)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available as a supply part. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Reconnect the D12 generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   8 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Connect terminals 26 (GMT) and 27 (GMTG) of connector A31 of the power management control ECU.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Terminals GMT and GMTG connected.
      Power switch on (IG)
      215°C (419°F)

    6. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the D12 generator temperature sensor connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Motor Temp No2.
    5. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Motor Temp No2 Power switch on (IG) -40°C (-40°F)

      HINT: 

      The generator temperature sensor is not available as a supply part. If it requires replacement, replace the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Reconnect the D12 generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK → See step   8 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (GENERATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR - POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the D12 generator temperature sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the A31 power management control ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D12-4 (GMT) - A31-26 (GMT) Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      D12-9 (GMTG) - A31-27 (GMTG) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D12-4 (GMT) or A31-26 (GMT) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      D12-9 (GMTG) or A31-27 (GMTG) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      (to Power Management Control ECU)
    4. Reconnect the A31 power management control ECU connector.
    5. Reconnect the D12 generator temperature sensor connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   7 

  7. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2013 - ] 
  8. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2013 - ] 
  9. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [08/2013 - ]
