Filling Joints with Grease

1. Bolt
   • Bolt WHT.005.437 / black 180° additional turn.
   • Bolt WHT.005.437. A / silver 90° additional turn.
   • Replace after removing.
   • Loosening and tightening. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
   • Before installing, clean the threads in the CV joint with a tap.
2. Outer CV Joint
   • Checking. Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
   • Removing. Refer to Figure.
   • Installing. Refer to Outer CV Joint, Installing .
   • When installing the joint on the axle shaft, the splines on the axle shaft must be lightly coated with the grease used in the joint.
3. Circlip
   • Replace after removing.
   • Insert in shaft groove
4. Clamp
   • Replace after removing.
   • Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
5. Outer CV Joint CV Boot
   • Check for tears and scuffing
6. Clamp
   • Replace after removing.
   • Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
7. Profile Shaft
8. Clamp
   • Replace after removing.
   • Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
9. Inner CV Joint CV Boot
   • Check for tears and scuffing
10. Clamp
    • Replace after removing.
    • Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
11. Backing Plate
12. Cap
    • Replace after removing.
    • Drive off CV joint using a drift
    • Apply sealant between the joint and cover. Refer to Figure.
    • The adhesive surface must be free of oil and grease
13. Inner CV Joint
    • Only replace completely
    • Checking. Refer to INNER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
    • Removing. Refer to Figure.
    • Installing. Refer to Inner CV Joint, Pressing On .
    • When installing the joint on the axle shaft, the splines on the axle shaft must be lightly coated with the grease used in the joint.
14. Circlip
    • Replace after removing.
    • Removing and installing with Circlip Pliers:VW161A 
15. Cap
    • Replace after removing.
    • Drive off CV joint using a drift
    • Apply sealant between the joint and cover. Refer to Figure.
16. Bolt
    • Pre-tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 10 Nm.
    • M8 tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 40 Nm.
    • M10 tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 70 Nm.
    • Replace after removing.
