Overview - Drive Axle

Lubricating grease. Refer to the Parts Information. Outer Joint Diameter Inner Joint Diameter

  1. Outer CV Joint
    • Replace only as a complete unit.
    • Removing. Refer to Figure.
    • Installing: Using a plastic hammer, drive onto the shaft as far as the stop
    • Divide the grease evenly in the joint
    • Checking. Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
  2. Bolt
    • Bolt : WHT.005.437  / black = 200 Nm +180°
    • Bolt : WHT.005.437.A  / silver = 200 Nm + 90°
    • Replace after removing.
    • Before installing, clean the threads in the CV joint with a thread tap.
    • Bolt, Loosening and Tightening. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
  3. Drive Axle
    • Allocation. Refer to the Parts Information.
  4. Clamp
    • Replace after removing
    • Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
  5. CV Boot
    • Check for tears and scuffing
    • Material: Hytrel polyelastomer
  6. Clamp
    • Replace after removing
    • Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
  7. Plate Spring
    • With inner spline
    • Installation position. Refer to Figure
  8. Circlip
    • Replace after removing
    • Insert in shaft groove
  9. CV Boot for CV Joint
    • Material: Hytrel polyelastomer
    • Without vent hole
    • Check for tears and scuffing
    • Drive off CV joint using drift
    • Coat the sealing surface with : D 454 300 A2  before installing it on the CV joint
  10. Clamp
    • Replace after removing
    • Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
  11. Backing Plate
  12. Internal Multi-Point Bolt
    • Pre-tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 10 Nm.
    • M8 tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 20 Nm.
    • M8 tightening specification: diagonal sequence with 180° additional turn
    • Replace after removing
  13. Circlip
    • Replace after removing
    • Remove and install using Circlip Pliers: VW161A 
  14. Seal
    • Replace after removing
    • Bonding surface on CV joint must not have any grease or oil on it.
  15. Inner CV Joint
  16. Plate Spring
    • With inner spline
    • Installation position. Refer to Figure
