Filling Joints with Grease

- Bolt
- Bolt WHT.005.437 / black 180° additional turn.
- Bolt WHT.005.437. A / silver 90° additional turn.
- Replace after removing.
- Loosening and tightening. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
- Before installing, clean the threads in the CV joint with a tap.
- Outer CV Joint
- Checking. Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
- Removing. Refer to Figure.
- Installing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, BOLTED TO TRANSMISSION - Outer CV Joint, Installing .
- When installing the joint on the axle shaft, the splines on the axle shaft must be lightly coated with the grease used in the joint.
- Circlip
- Replace after removing.
- Insert in shaft groove
- Clamp
- Replace after removing.
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
- Outer CV Joint CV Boot
- Check for tears and scuffing
- Clamp
- Replace after removing.
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
- Profile Shaft
- Clamp
- Replace after removing.
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
- Inner CV Joint CV Boot
- Check for tears and scuffing
- Clamp
- Replace after removing.
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
- Backing Plate
- Cap
- Replace after removing.
- Drive off CV joint using a drift
- Apply sealant between the joint and cover. Refer to Figure.
- The adhesive surface must be free of oil and grease
- Inner CV Joint
- Only replace completely
- Checking. Refer to INNER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
- Removing. Refer to Figure.
- Installing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, BOLTED TO TRANSMISSION - Inner CV Joint, Pressing On .
- When installing the joint on the axle shaft, the splines on the axle shaft must be lightly coated with the grease used in the joint.
- Circlip
- Replace after removing.
- Removing and installing with Circlip Pliers: VW161A
- Cap
- Replace after removing.
- Drive off CV joint using a drift
- Apply sealant between the joint and cover. Refer to Figure.
- Bolt
- Pre-tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 10 Nm.
- M8 tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 40 Nm.
- M10 tightening specification: diagonal sequence to 70 Nm.
- Replace after removing.
