Brake Caliper, Removing And Installing, Rear Brakes: Removing
-- Loosen the parking brake.
-- Switch off the ignition.
Do not disconnect the connectors from the parking brake motors.
-- Remove the affected rear wheel. Refer to Wheels and Tires .
Vehicles with 2.5L TFSI engine
-- Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor connector -2-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Right Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor -G44- /Left Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor -G46-.
-- Remove the brake carrier bolts -arrows- using the :T10035 .
The installation position illustrated is for a FWD vehicle.
-- Remove the brake caliper with the brake carrier and installed brake pads from the brake rotor.
AWD vehicles: drive back the parking brake (refer to BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, REAR BRAKES ) and drive back the brake pad.
FWD vehicles: if the brake rotor is so worn that the brake caliper cannot be removed, then the parking brake must be driven back. Refer to BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, REAR BRAKES .
For easier removal of the brake caliper from the brake rotor, push the brake pad -2- back lightly with suitable pliers -1-, as shown.
To prevent damage to the paint coat on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -3- between the pliers and the brake caliper.
Danger of damaging the brake hose.
- Do not let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose. Do not support the weight with the brake hose.
- Replace the brake hose if damaged.
Risk of damaging the brake caliper piston.
- Do not operate the brakes or the electromechanical parking brake when the brake caliper is removed.
- Do not damage the brake hose and brake line.
- Do not bend the brake line past the specified form.
- A damaged brake hose or a damaged or bent brake line must be replaced.
-- Hang the brake caliper with the brake carrier on the body with wire.
