Brake Caliper, Replacing TTRS And Ceramic Brakes: Removing

CAUTION:

If brake pads are ceramics, wheel must not fall on brake rotor, otherwise it will be irreparably damaged. To install/remove wheel, install two assembly pins from vehicle tool kit in mounts on wheel bolts. The long assembly pin is in the upper position.

-- Remove the affected front wheel. Refer to Wheels and Tires .

-- Insert the Brake Pedal Actuator :VAG1869/2  between the brake pedal and driver seat. Pretension the brake pedal at least 60 mm.

NOTE:

By doing this, the valves in the brake master cylinder are closed and the brake fluid reservoir does not run empty.

WARNING:

Brake fluid is caustic risk of skin injury.

Do not extract brake fluid by mouth.

Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be swallowed.

  • To prevent skin contact with brake fluid, wear chemical resistant safety gloves.

Brake fluid contact with fluids containing mineral oils causes malfunctions.

  • Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gas, cleaning solutions). Safety gloves must be free of oil and grease.

Risk of damaging the painted surfaces.

  • Due to its caustic nature, brake fluid must also never come in contact with paint. Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.

-- Remove the protective cap -3- from the bleed screw -1-.

-- Connect the bleeder bottle hose -2- as shown.

-- Open the bleed screw to reduce the pressure in the brake system.

-- Close the bleed screw and remove the bleeder bottle.

NOTE:

Do not remove the Brake Pedal Actuator :VAG1869/2  .

NOTE:

Place a cloth underneath to catch any brake fluid leaking out.

-- Remove the union bolt -3- and bolt -1-.

-- Remove the bracket -2- and move the brake hose to the side.

-- Immediately seal off the open brake hose with sealing plugs from the Repair Kit :1H0 698 311 A  .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- for the brake pad wear sensor on the right brake caliper.

NOTE:

For easier removal of the brake caliper from the brake rotor, push the brake pads -3 and 4- back lightly with pliers -1-. To prevent damage to the coating on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber -2- or similar between the pliers and brake caliper.

CAUTION:

Risk of contamination from escaping brake fluid.

  • When the brake lines are pressed the brake fluid flows out.

-- Seal the open connection on the brake caliper immediately with sealing plugs from the Repair Kit :1H0 698 311 A  .

The bolts -arrows- on the brake caliper for the brake carrier -1- and the tension strut -2- may not be loosened.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of malfunction.

  • The bolts -arrows- on the brake caliper for the brake carrier -1- and the tension strut -2- may not be loosened.

-- Unscrew the bolts -arrows- and carefully remove the brake caliper with the brake pads from the brake rotor.

-- Remove the brake pads.
