Brake Caliper, Replacing, 1LK/1LH TTS: Removing

-- Insert the :VAG1869/2 between the brake pedal and driver seat. Preload the brake pedal at least 60 mm.

NOTE:

By doing this, the valves in the brake master cylinder are closed and the brake fluid reservoir does not run empty.

-- Remove the affected front wheel. Refer to Wheels and Tires .

WARNING:

Risk of skin irritation.

To prevent skin contact with brake fluid, wear chemical resistant safety gloves.

-- Remove the protective cap -3- from the bleeder screw -1-.

-- Place the bleeder hose -2- of the bleeder bottle onto the bleeder screw.

-- Open the bleeder screw to reduce the pressure in the hydraulic system.

-- Close the bleeder screw and remove the bleeder bottle.

NOTE:

Do not remove the :VAG1869/2 .

-- To protect against escaping brake fluid, place a cloth under the separating point.

WARNING:

Brake fluid is caustic risk of skin injury.

Do not extract brake fluid by mouth.

Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be swallowed.

To prevent skin contact with brake fluid, wear chemical resistant safety gloves.

Brake fluid contact with fluids containing mineral oils causes malfunctions.

Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gas, cleaning solutions). Safety gloves must be free of oil and grease.

Risk of damaging the painted surfaces.

Due to its corrosive nature, brake fluid must also never contact paint. Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.

-- Disconnect the connector -arrow- for the brake pad wear sensor contact on the brake caliper.

NOTE:

For easier removal of the brake caliper from the brake rotor, push the brake pad -3- back slightly with suitable pliers -1-, as shown in the illustration.

To prevent damage to the coating on the brake caliper, place a piece of rubber or similar -2- between the pliers and brake caliper.

-- Remove the bolts -1- for the brake caliper.

-- Remove the brake caliper.

CAUTION:

Danger of damaging the brake hose.

Do not let the brake caliper hang on the brake hose. Do not support the weight with the brake hose.
Replace the brake hose if damaged.

Risk of damaging the brake caliper piston.

Do not press the brake pedal when the brake caliper is removed.

WARNING:

Do not damage the brake hose and brake line.
Do not bend the brake line past the specified form.
A damaged brake hose or a damaged or bent brake line must be replaced.
