ABS Control Module -J104- AND ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH A TDI ENGINE: Removing

-- Insert the : VAG1869/2 between the brake pedal and driver seat. Press the brake pedal down at least 60 mm.

NOTE:

By doing this, the valves in the brake master cylinder are closed and the brake fluid reservoir does not run empty.

WARNING:

Brake fluid is caustic risk of skin injury.

Do not extract brake fluid by mouth.

Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be swallowed.

To prevent skin contact with brake fluid, wear chemical resistant safety gloves.

Due to its corrosive nature, brake fluid must also never contact paint. Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.

-- Remove the protective cap -3- from the bleed screw -1- on the left front caliper.

-- Connect the bleeder bottle hose -2- as shown.

-- Open the bleed screw to reduce the pressure in the brake system.

-- Close the bleed screw and remove the bleeder bottle.

-- Repeat the procedure on the left rear brake caliper.

NOTE:

Do not remove the : VAG1869/2 .

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to the appropriate service information. .

-- If installed, release the catch -arrow-, pull the cover -1- off to the left and remove it.

NOTE:

The cover -1- is installed depending on the model.

-- Unclip the wiring guide.

-- Press the locking mechanism downward -arrow A-.

-- Release the connector -arrow B-.

-- Remove the connector -1-.

NOTE:

Make sure that no brake fluid enters the control module connector housing. This could lead to contact corrosion and thereby cause the system to fail.

Clean a dirty connector housing thoroughly with compressed air.

-- To protect against escaping brake fluid, place enough lint-free cloths in the area below the hydraulic control unit.

WARNING:

Do not damage the brake hose and brake line.
Do not bend the brake line past the specified form.
A damaged brake hose or a damaged or bent brake line must be replaced.

-- Mark the brake lines on the hydraulic control module.

-- Remove the union bolts for the brake lines in the sequence -1 through 6- and push the brake lines slightly to the side.

-- Immediately seal the open connection points with clean plugs from the Assembly Part Set: 5Q0 698 311 .

-- Remove the hydraulic control module -1- upward -arrow-.

-- Turn the hydraulic control module in the engine compartment upward with the mounting bracket.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the mounting bracket -1- from the hydraulic control module.

-- Turn the hydraulic control module and place it on the subframe.

-- Remove the hydraulic control module from below.

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying the hydraulic control module.

Do not remove the pump motor from the hydraulic control module.
