Transmission Fluid Cooler, Removing And Installing: Removing

CAUTION:

The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is warm. Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.

Burns to skin and other parts of the body are possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Reduce the pressure: cover the coolant reservoir cap with a cloth and carefully open.

-- Open the coolant expansion tank cap -arrow-.

-- Remove the air filter housing:

-- Remove the noise insulation -1-. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

Vehicles with 1.8L/2.0L TFSI Engine:

-- If installed, loosen the hose clamp -1- and remove the air duct hose from the charge air cooler.

-- Vehicles with left auxiliary cooler: Free up the coolant hose -3-.

-- Free up the wiring harnesses -1 and 2- at the air duct pipe.

-- Loosen the screw-type clamp -4-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the air duct pipe.

Vehicles with TFSI Engine: 

-- Disconnect the connector -2-.

-- Place a cloth underneath to catch any leaking coolant.

-- Clamp off the coolant hoses on the transmission fluid cooler using the : 3094  .

-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows- and remove the coolant hoses from the transmission fluid cooler.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and move the -N488- to the side.

Vehicles with TDI Engine:

-- Loosen the screw-type clamp -2- and bolts -arrows- and remove the air duct pipe -1-.

-- Clamp off the coolant hoses on the transmission fluid cooler using the : 3094  .

-- Place a cloth underneath to catch any leaking coolant.

All Vehicles:

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the : VAS6122  .

-- Remove the bolts -A-.

CAUTION:

Transmission Damage Due to Contaminated Transmission Fluid.

- Coolant must not drip into the transmission.

-- Remove the transmission fluid cooler -B- with both O-rings -C- from the transmission.
