Crankshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Plastigauge®
Procedure
-- Remove bearing cap.
-- Clean bearing cap and bearing journals.
-- Place the Plastigauge® on the entire width of the bearing journal or into the bearing shells.
- The Plastigauge® must rest in the center of the bearing shell.
-- Place the bearing cap and fasten with the old bolts. Refer to Figure, do not turn the crankshaft.
-- Reinstall the bearing cap.
-- Compare the width of the Plastigauge® with the measuring scale.
Radial clearance:
- New: 0.022 to 0.042 mm.
- Wear limit: 0.062 mm.
-- Replace the bolts for the final assembly.
