Convertible Top, Removing And Installing: Removing
- Convertible top closed
-- Carefully remove the convertible top compartment trim panel -1- from the mount starting at the outside of the tensioning bracket -2-.
-- Move the convertible top into the "open" position.
-- Remove the rear panel trim panel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - VEHICLE INTERIOR TRIM PANELS .
-- Remove the upper luggage compartment trim panel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM PANELS .
-- Remove the bolts -3 and 4-.
-- Open the retainers in direction of -arrows-.
-- Push the tensioning strap -2- through the opening in the body -1- into the convertible top compartment.
-- Remove the retainer -1- and remove the tensioning bracket release lever -3- at the mount -2- -arrow-.
-- Remove the operating lever over the drive motor.
-- Tape off the body to protect against paint damage.
- Apply at least 4 layers of tape -1- on top of each other.
-- Bring the convertible top into the "closed" position by hand.
-- Pry the tensioning bracket -2- out of the convertible top compartment in direction of -arrow-.
-- Slide the tensioning bracket -1- slightly forward and then fold it up and secure it from closing unexpectedly.
-- Thread the Tensioning Strap:T10038 into the Hooks:T40306 and turn the quick-action clamps three times on the shaft.
-- Engage the front and rear Hooks:T40306 in the center of the convertible top edge and adjust the tension if necessary.
-- Remove the convertible top compartment front trim panel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - VEHICLE INTERIOR TRIM PANELS .
-- Press the actuator rod ball socket -3- out of the flap -2- mount -1-.
-- Press the release lever downward and guide the release cable -3- out of the opening.
-- Remove the adjusting nut -1- from the mount -2- in direction of -arrow-.
-- Place the release cable with the removed side forward between the tension cable so that it does not hang on the body when removing the convertible top.
-- Press the actuator rod on the convertible top control flap ball head again.
-- Remove the antenna -1-. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - ANTENNA SYSTEMS .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the main bearing.
-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the convertible top motor by pulling the retainer -1- and pressing the release.
-- Disconnect the connector -5-.
-- Free up the connector housing -4- on the bracket -3- by pressing the release and removing the connector housing in direction of -arrow-.
-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the convertible top motor by pulling the retainer -1- and pressing the release.
-- Disconnect the antenna wire -3-.
-- The convertible top -1- must be carefully lifted out of the vehicle with the help of two technicians in direction of -arrows-.
-- When lifting out the convertible top, carefully guide it out at the open convertible top frame flaps, remove it toward the rear and set on a soft surface.
