DRIVE AXLE OVERVIEW, WITH 100 mm DIAMETER OUTER CV JOINT AND 108 mm DIAMETER INNER CV JOINT: Notes

1. Cover
   • Drive the cover off carefully using a drift
   • Always replace.
   • The adhesive surfaces on the cover/inner CV joint must be free of grease when installing.
   • Before mounting on the CV joint, coat the sealing surface with sealant. Refer to INNER CV JOINT, 100 MM DIAMETER OR 108 MM DIAMETER .
2. Securing Ring
   • Remove and install with commercially-available circlip pliers.
   • Always replace.
3. Inner CV joint
   • Exterior diameter: 108 mm
   • Replace only as complete unit.
   • Checking, refer to INNER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
   • Pressing off, refer to INNER CV JOINT, 100 MM DIAMETER OR 108 MM DIAMETER .
   • Pressing on, refer to INNER CV JOINT, 100 MM DIAMETER OR 108 MM DIAMETER .
   • Grease quantity and type, refer to DRIVE AXLE OVERVIEW, WITH 100 MM DIAMETER OUTER CV JOINT AND 108 MM DIAMETER INNER CV JOINT .
   • Adhesive surface must be free of oil and grease.
   • When installing joint on axle shaft, splines on axle shaft must be lightly coated with grease used in joint.
4. Backing Plate
5. Bolt
   • 70 Nm
   • Always replace if removed.
6. Clamp
   • Always replace.
   • Tensioning, refer to INNER CV JOINT, 100 MM DIAMETER OR 108 MM DIAMETER .
7. Inner CV Joint Protective Boot
   • Without ventilation bore.
   • In case of damage, check inner CV joint. Refer to INNER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
   • The protective boot/drive shaft sealing surfaces must be free of grease when installing.
   • Before tightening clamp, briefly raise CV boot to allow pressure to equalize.
8. Clamp
   • Always replace.
   • Tensioning, refer to INNER CV JOINT, 100 MM DIAMETER OR 108 MM DIAMETER .
9. Drive Axle
   • Removing and installing, refer to DRIVE AXLE .
10. CV Boot for Outer CV Joint
    • Without ventilation bore.
    • Check for tears and chafing; replace if necessary.
    • In case of damage, check outer CV joint. Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
    • The protective boot/outer CV joint sealing surfaces must be free of grease when installing.
    • Before tightening clamp, briefly raise CV boot to allow pressure to equalize.
11. Clamp
    • Opening, refer to Removing .
    • Tensioning, refer to Installing .
12. Securing Ring
    • Always replace.
    • Allocation Parts Information..
    • Insert into ring groove of shaft before installation (not visible on installed joint).
    • Before installing CV joint, align the sealing ring in center with opening facing upward.
13. Outer CV Joint
    • Exterior diameter: 100 mm.
    • Replace only as complete unit.
    • Checking, refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
    • Driving off, refer to OUTER CV JOINT, 88 MM DIAMETER OR 100 MM DIAMETER .
    • Installing: Drive onto shaft using plastic hammer until compressed circlip seats.
    • Circlip must lie in joint chamfer when guiding in, guide with pliers if necessary.
    • Grease quantity and type. Refer to DRIVE AXLE OVERVIEW, WITH 100 MM DIAMETER OUTER CV JOINT AND 108 MM DIAMETER INNER CV JOINT .
    • The protective boot/outer CV joint sealing surfaces must be free of grease when installing.
    • When installing joint on axle shaft, splines on axle shaft must be lightly coated with grease used in joint.
14. Bolt
    • Always replace.
    • Follow the assembly information when loosening and tightening. Refer to THREADED CONNECTION BETWEEN DRIVE AXLE AND WHEEL HUB, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
    • 200 Nm + 180° turn
