Safety Precautions When Working On Fuel Supply System
Risk of a Fire Due to Leaking Fuel.
When the battery is connected, the door contact switch activates the fuel pump when opening the driver door. Leaking fuel can ignite and start a fire.
-- Before opening the fuel system, interrupt the power supply to the fuel pump.
There Is a Risk of Injury Due to the Fuel Being under Pressure.
The fuel system is under pressure. Injuries are possible from fuel spraying out.
Before opening the fuel system:
-- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Wear safety gloves.
-- Reduce the pressure: Place clean cloths around the connection point and carefully open the connection point.
If fuel system components between the fuel tank and high pressure fuel pump are removed or replaced, then a fuel first filling must be performed. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM, FILLING/BLEEDING .
Risk of Destroying the Fuel Pump
After procedures on the fuel system it is possible to damage the fuel pump by running it dry.
-- Never let the fuel pump run dry.
-- Fill or bleed the fuel pump.
Risk of Destroying the Electronic Components
There is a risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
-- Only disconnect the battery when the ignition is switched off.
-- Remove the fuse for the Fuel Pump Control Module -J538- in the Fuse Panel B -SB- in the engine compartment E-box; fuse assignment Wiring Diagram .
