Rearview Camera - R189-, Removing And Installing, Sedan
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Torque Wrench 1410 - VAG1410-
The Rearview Camera - R189- is inside the rear lid handle button. It permanently attached to the handle button.
If the Rearview Camera - R189- must be replaced, then the handle button must also be replaced.
Removing
- Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment and remove the ignition key.
- Remove the rear lid trim panel. Refer to Body Interior (Luggage Compartment Trim Panels; Overview - Lower Rear Lid Trim Panel).
The Rearview Camera - R189- has a trailing cable. The vehicle wiring harness couplings are located in the rear lid.
- Unlock and disconnect the connectors -2 and 3-.
- If necessary, unclip the connectors -2 and 3- from the anti-theft protection -1-.
- Release the tab -4- on the anti-theft protection -1- and remove the anti-theft protection -1- from the rear lid.
The Rearview Camera - R189- -3- is firmly attached to the handle button.
- Release and disconnect the connectors -2- from the handle button.
- Remove the nuts -4-.
- Pull the handle button -1- with the Rearview Camera - R189- -3- out of the retainer in the rear lid.
Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Close the rear lid.
- Perform the calibration. Refer to 8.4 Rearview Camera System, Calibrating

Tightening Specifications
