Left Timing Chain Cover, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the engine cover, refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

WARNING:

Fire hazards and risk of damage for a faulty engine cover.

  • The engine cover must be always be installed before the hood is closed.
  • The engine may neither be started nor driven without an engine cover.

-- Drain the coolant, refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Remove the left front muffler, refer to FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the plenum chamber bulkhead, refer to Bulkhead .

-- Empty the coolant circuit, refer to A/C System with Refrigerant R134a.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and press the refrigerant line toward the rear.

NOTE:

Ignore -items 2 and 4-.

-- Remove the connector -1- for the Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130- item -3- from the bracket and disconnect it. Free up the wire.

NOTE:

The catalytic converter for the cylinder bank 1 (right) is on the left in the vehicle.

-- Free up the wire for the Heated Oxygen Sensor -G39-.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- from the cylinder bank 1 (right) and then remove the catalytic converter in the left of the vehicle, toward the rear.

-- Remove the nut -arrow- and free up the clamp.

-- Remove the nut -arrow- and then push the mount -1- with the wire toward the rear.

-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2-.

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the coolant pipe.

  • Do not bend the coolant pipe.

-- Remove the rear upper coolant pipe from the right cover for the timing chain guard in direction of -arrow- and set it aside.

NOTE:

The catalytic converter and the turbocharger support are removed to improve the clarity of the illustration.

-- Remove the bolts in the following sequence: -8 to 1-.

-- Push the mount -arrow- with the wire to the side.

-- Carefully remove the left cover for the timing chain from the bond.
