Rear Brake Pads, Removing And Installing : Removing

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2015 Audi S7, 2015 Audi RS 7, 2015 Audi A7 Quattro, 2014 Audi S7, and 2014 Audi RS 7. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!

Operating the electromechanical parking brake after a long drive is recommended.

NOTE:

If old brake pads are being replaced with new ones, then it is necessary to check the brake rotor thickness for wear. Pay attention to the wear limit for the brake rotor thickness. Refer to BRAKES, TECHNICAL DATA .

Always replace brake rotors on both sides of the axle. Refer to REAR BRAKE ROTOR, REPLACING .

-- Raise the vehicle.

-- Remove the wheels.

If the brake pads are replaced, start the corresponding program in Guided Functions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle data link connector with the ignition switched off.

NOTE:

Switch the ignition on.

The parking brake is released.

Coding check and reported if necessary.

DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.

-- Start the program in Guided Functions.

Brake pads, replacing

-- Move the brake piston back using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

For all vehicles: 

-- Remove the electrical connection for the electromechanical parking brake from the retainer.

-- Remove attachment bolts from brake caliper housing, counter-hold guide pins to do so.

NOTE:

Remove the brake pad wear display contact from the clip in the inner brake pad -9- before removing the brake caliper.

-- Remove the brake pad wear display contact form the clip inside the inner brake pad.

NOTE: Do not disconnect the electrical connection from the motor.

-- Remove the brake caliper.

-- Hang the brake caliper on the body using a suitable wire.

CAUTION: Do not let the brake caliper with the brake carrier hang on the brake hose. Do not support the weight with the brake hose.
WARNING: Do not actuate the brakes or the electromechanical parking brake when the brake caliper is removed.

-- Remove the clip for the brake pad wear display contact wire from the inner brake pad.

-- Remove the pads from the brake carrier.

-- Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper.

-- Press the pistons back with the Piston Resetting Tool T10145.
