Front Brakes, Servicing

NOTE:

After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

Use Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit VAS 5234 to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.

Install the Brake Pedal Actuator VAG 1869/2 to relieve pressure before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose.

Stub Axle Carrier
Brake Rotor Cover Plate
- Refer to FRONT COVER PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
Bolt
- 10 Nm.
Brake Rotor
- For the correct wear limit. Refer to FRONT BRAKES .
- Do not detach the brake line when replacing the brake rotor.
- Always replace on both axles.
- to remove, first remove brake caliper, do not disconnect the brake line.
- Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
- Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REPLACING
Brake Pad Bolt
- 5 Nm
Brake Pads
- For removing the brake pad, remove the brake caliper.
  NOTE: The inner pad is equipped with a cable for the wear indicator.
- Remove any film on the back of the pad before installing.
- Before installing the brake pads, clean the pad guide surface and coat it with a film of Polycarbamide grease..
- Always replace on both axles.
  Refer to FRONT BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
- Check the brake pad thickness. Refer to => 411.

- Shims on the brake pad. Refer to SHIMS .
  NOTE: Make sure the contact for the brake pad wear display fits correctly in the clip inside the inner brake pad.
Brake Caliper
- When doing work, do not allow to hang from brake hose, rather suspend it from the body using bundling wire
- Except for "replacing brake pads" and "servicing front brake caliper", no other repairs should be performed on the brake caliper
- Install hose so it is not twisted
- remove for changing brake pad
- Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
- Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REPLACING
- Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, SERVICING, THREE-PISTON BRAKE
Balance Spring
NOTE:
Refer to INSTALLED POSITION OF BALANCE SPRING

The balance spring must fit completely inside the brake caliper so that the brake pads sit correctly in the guide pins.
Brake Line
- Install in the brake caliper housing
- Screwed together with brake hose, held against the hex nut of the brake hose.
- Hose must be installed free of twists
- Make sure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.
- Brake line connection to brake hose 14 Nm
- Brake line connection to brake caliper 20 Nm
  Make sure the brake hose is routed correctly. Make sure the brake hose is not blocked, bent or rubbing against the vehicle.
Brake Pad Wear Display Wire
Installed on the inner brake pad only.
- Refer to BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
  NOTE: Make sure the contact for the brake pad wear display fits correctly in the clip inside the inner brake pad.
Brake Caliper Bolts
- 196 Nm.
- Loosen the brake caliper on these bolts only.
  NOTE: Loosen and tighten the bolts with a 9 mm Socket T50036.
Bleed Screw
- 13 Nm

Do not loosen the bolted connections -A and B arrows-.
