Overview - Front Brakes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2015 Audi S7, 2015 Audi RS 7, 2015 Audi A7 Quattro, 2014 Audi S7, and 2014 Audi RS 7. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE:

Install the entire repair kit.

After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

When siphoning brake fluid, always use a bleeder bottle that is used exclusively for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!

Check brake caliper for ease of movement by moving it sideways.

Brake Pads
- Illustration of left front with brake wear cable
  NOTE: The inner surface (with tension spring) in the left brake caliper is equipped with a cable for wear indicator.
- Always replace on both axles.
- Before inserting the pads, clean the contact surfaces and apply a layer of Polycarbamide Grease G 052 142 A2.
- Refer to BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
- Check the brake pad thickness. Refer to => 411.
  NOTE: Before installing new brake pads, thoroughly clean the brake calipers of contaminants (grease-free). When doing so, pay particular attention to removing any remaining adhesive foil on brake pad contact surfaces.
  
  NOTE:
  Apply a thin coat of grease to the contact surfaces between the retaining pins and brake pad.
  
  When doing this, do not allow any grease to get on the rubber components. Clean the rubber components of grease.

Brake Carrier
- Bolt to wheel bearing housing
- The retaining pins for the brake pads on the brake carrier must not be loosened under any circumstances.

Bolt
- 196 Nm
- Brake carrier to wheel bearing housing
- Use new bolts.

Bolt
- 30 Nm
- Tighten the brake caliper to the brake carrier.

Brake Line Connection to Brake Caliper
- 20 Nm
  NOTE: do not twist it when installing

Bolt
- The four bolts must not be loosened under any circumstances.

Brake Caliper
- When doing work, do not allow to hang from brake hose, rather suspend it from the body using bundling wire
- The brake caliper must not be disassembled.
- No other repairs may be made to the brake caliper other than "Brake Pads, Removing and Installing" and "Brake Caliper, Servicing, Front" and removing and installing the guide pins.
- Hose must be installed free of twists

Spring Clamp
- Remove the brake pads before removal
- Insert after installing the brake pads

Brake Pad Retaining Pins
- Do not loosen
  WARNING: The four retaining pins for the brake pads on the brake carrier must not be loosened under any circumstances.
  
  NOTE:
  Apply a thin coat of grease to the contact surfaces between the retaining pins and brake pad.
  
  When doing this, do not allow any grease to get on the rubber components. Clean the rubber components of grease.

Securing The Brake Pad in Brake Caliper

Brake Rotor
- For the correct wear limit. Refer to FRONT BRAKES .
- Always replace on both axles.
- Coat the contact surfaces between the brake rotor and wheel hub with Polycarbamide Grease G 052 142 A2. Wheels, Tires, Wheel Alignment

Brake Pad Bolt
- 5 Nm
  NOTE: Tighten the bleed screw on the brake caliper to 13 Nm.
