Rear Brake Caliper Piston, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Install the new seal in the brake caliper.

-- Install the cap on the brake piston as shown below.

-- Install the pressure nut -1- all the way into the brake caliper and then loosen it one quarter of a turn.

-- Install the cap into the groove on the brake caliper.

NOTE:

Use assembly wedge 3409.

-- Push the brake piston carefully into the brake caliper.

NOTE:

Move the brake piston while doing this. The brake piston must be guided over the pressure nut.

-- After brake piston has been guided onto pressure nut, press it as far as stop into brake caliper.

NOTE:

Be careful not to damage the pressure nut.

The seal must contact the brake caliper -arrows- all the way around.

-- Press the piston into brake caliper by hand.

NOTE:

The inner sealing lip of the protective cap thereby slips into the groove on the piston.

The Piston Resetting ToolT10145 can also be used to push the brake piston.

NOTE:

Make sure that the protective cap is guided into brake piston groove when piston is pressed all the way in.

Install the brake pads. Refer to REAR BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Make sure the brake pads fit correctly in the brake pad springs -arrows-.

-- Secure brake caliper housing using new self-locking bolts.

NOTE:

The repair kit includes self-locking bolts which must be installed in all cases.

-- Install the connector for the electromechanical parking brake into the bracket.

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle data link connector with the ignition switched off.

NOTE:

Switch the ignition on.

The parking brake is released.

Coding check and reported if necessary.

DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.

-- Start the program in Guided Functions.

-- Refer to BRAKE SYSTEM, BLEEDING

-- Install the wheels. Refer to Wheel and Tire Guide Wheels, Tires, Wheel Alignment .

-- Check brake fluid level, and fill if necessary.

CAUTION:

Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle.
