DETERMINING MALFUNCTION IF COOLING OUTPUT OF FRONT A/C SYSTEM IS OK BUT REQUIRED VALUES ARE NOT ACHIEVED IN "Comfort" VERSION

For Vehicles with Mechanically and Electronically-Powered Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressors.

NOTE:

This test is the same for mechanically- and electrically-powered A/C compressors (on vehicles with and without high voltage system / hybrid vehicles).

For the rear cooling output test, the temperature of the air coming out of the rear center console vents is measured with a thermometer.

A sufficient amount of air must blow through so that the correct temperature is measured from the temperature sensors (Left Rear Upper Body Vent Temperature Sensor -G635- / Right Rear Upper Body Vent Temperature Sensor -G636-, Left Rear Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor -G637- / Right Rear Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor -G638-). If necessary, change the direction of the air flow.

Requirement for this test:

The A/C cooling output is checked and found to be OK, refer to VEHICLES WITHOUT A HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM, CHECKING (vehicles without high voltage system).

When testing the cooling output, it is helpful to display the following measured values of the Rear A/C Display Control Head -E265- :

Measured values for the following temperature sensors: Left Rear Upper Body Vent Temperature Sensor -G635- / Right Rear Upper Body Vent Temperature Sensor -G636-, Left Rear Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor -G637- / Right Rear Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor -G638-.

-- Open the vent in the left and right B-pillars.

-- Ensure that the air outlet from the rear footwell vents (under the front seats) is not blocked by floor mats or other objects.

-- Set the air distribution on the rear A/C Display Control Head -E265- so that the air is routed to all vents.

-- Repeat the cooling output test. Read and write down the measured value for the Evaporator Vent Temperature Sensor -G263-, refer to COOLING OUTPUT, CHECKING .

-- In the "read measured" values of the rear A/C Display Control Head -E265- function, select the display group with the measured values for the temperature sensors: left rear upper body vent temperature sensor Left Rear Upper Body Vent Temperature Sensor -G635-, Right Rear Upper Body Vent Temperature Sensor -G636-, Left Rear Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor -G637- and the Right Rear Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor -G638-, refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

-- Use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the air from the vents in the left and right rear center console (the measured values correspond to the temperatures previously measured by the Evaporator Vent Temperature Sensor -G263-, permissible deviation +9°C (48.2°F)), refer to VEHICLES WITHOUT A HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM, CHECKING .

-- Pay attention to the measured values of the different temperature sensors during the cooling output test.

-- Do the temperatures in the rear measured by the various temperature sensors correspond to the temperature of the air from the vents in the left and right rear center console measured by the thermometer (the permissible deviation of the displayed values from the temperature measured by the evaporator vent temperature sensor Evaporator Vent Temperature Sensor -G263- is less than + 9°C (48.2°F), corresponding somewhat to the temperatures measured with the thermometer)?

NOTE:

Since the cooled air from the A/C unit must flow through the air guide channel under the center console toward the rear, it may take a moment until the air at the rear vent reaches the requested value.

If the required temperatures are not reached for the temperature sensor, adjust the rear A/C Display Control Head -E265- so that more air flows past the temperature sensor.

A temperature of less than or one more than +9°C (48.2°F) is not measured at any measurement point by the Evaporator Vent Temperature Sensor -G263-.

The cooling output in the rear is OK (end of test) -- If there is a complaint due to a lack of heating output, refer to A/C SYSTEM TEMPERATURE DOOR HEAT OUTPUT ACTIVATION, CHECKING.-- If there is a complaint due to different temperatures of the air from the rear vents (check the temperature sensors and the control motors of the A/C system) using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.	Are the temperatures on many or all of the measuring positions too high (or too low)? -- Check the temperature sensor with the incorrect measured value using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.-- Check the activation and the functionality of the adjustment motor on the A/C system or on the rear air distribution housing using the in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
