Gear Oil Level, Checking, Transfer Case, Transmission With Separated Oil System: Procedure
- Gear oil temperature: approximately 20°C (68°F) (room temperature).
- The engine must be switched off when working.
- Move the vehicle onto a four-column workshop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.
- The transmission must be still for at least 15 minutes to make sure the oil settles internally.
- Transmission in "P".
- The parking brake button should be activated to close the electro-mechanical parking brake.
General repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .
Pay attention to clean working conditions for the transmission. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
Follow the disposal requirements.
Replace the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) drain plug and seal.
Replace the plug for the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) check and fill hole.
-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN 372500 under the transmission.
Danger of eye injury.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove the drain plug -arrow A- from the center differential housing.
- Specified value: The level is correct when the transmission fluid comes up to the bottom edge of oil filler hole.
If the level does not reach the bottom of the oil fill hole:
-- Install the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 6 VAS 6617/6 with the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 2 VAS 6617/2 in the check and fill hole in the transfer case and tighten by hand.
-- Connect the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit VAS 6617 and fill the transfer case with necessary gear oil level. Transmission fluid.
-- Wait five minutes.
-- Remove the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler - Adapter 6 VAS 6617/6 from the transmission and let any extra oil drain out.
- Specified value: The level is correct when the transmission fluid comes up to the bottom edge of oil filler hole. Fill the gear oil once more if necessary.
-- Tighten the new drain plug -arrow A- for the center differential housing.
-- Remove the cloth from the tunnel crossmember.
