Engine And Transmission, Separating, Automatic Transmission: Procedure

-- Remove the connector -3- for the Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -G131- from the bracket and disconnect it.

NOTE: Ignore items -1 and 2-.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and the nuts -arrows- and then remove the left catalytic converter.

-- Remove bolts -arrows- and remove bracket.

NOTE: Ignore items -1 and 2-.
CAUTION:

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

  • Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

-- To discharge static electricity, touch the transmission housing (without wearing gloves).

-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise in direction of -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.

-- Free up the wiring harness on the transmission.

-- Loosen the clamp -1- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Disconnect the connector -2-.

NOTE:

Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the ATF pipe -1- from the transmission.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set VAS 6122.

-- Remove the connector -1- for the Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130- from the bracket and disconnect it.

NOTE: Ignore items -2 and 3-.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and the nuts -arrows- and then remove the right catalytic converter.

-- Lift the clamp -arrow- and remove the connection from the upper coolant pipe.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the left drive axle heat shield.

-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft, refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

NOTE:

Catch any leaking ATF with a cloth.

-- Loosen the hose clamp -3- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then tie up the ATF cooler -1- to the side with the coolant hose -2- still connected.

-- Move the ATF cooler to the side.

-- Remove the lower cover -1- from the transmission in direction of -arrow-.

-- Insert the crankshaft socket T40058 guide pins as follows:

-- Counterhold the crankshaft and loosen the drive plate bolts using Crankshaft Socket T40058 and a wrench.

NOTE:

Turn the crankshaft only in direction of -arrow-.

-- Remove the 6 bolts -arrow- from the clutch module. Turn the crankshaft an additional 60° in the direction of engine rotation.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10, Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7, and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 as follows:

-- Secure the articulated joint support VAS 6131/13-7 to the engine in threaded hole on the front to the right, as shown in the illustration.

-- Tighten the articulated joint support VAS 6131/13-7 to 20 Nm on the scissor lift table.

-- Attach the mounting elements from the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 on the front of the transmission, as shown in illustration.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until the Scissor Lift Table - Gearbox Support VAS 6131/14 rests firmly against the transmission.

-- Attach mounting element base plates to Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the starter bolts -1- and -2-.

-- Press the starter off the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

-- Remove the remaining bolts -3 through 11- that attach the engine to the transmission.

NOTE: Ignore item -A-.

-- Loosen the clamping screws -1- on sides of Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B and pull the rear table top with the transmission toward rear in direction of -arrow-.
