Overview - Exhaust Gas Recirculation

  1. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Pipe
    • To the intake manifold
    • Tightening specification and sequence, refer to Fig 2.
  2. Bolt
    • Tightening specification and sequence, refer to Fig 2.
  3. Seal
    • Replace
  4. EGR Temperature Sensor -G98-
  5. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
  6. EGR Cooler
  7. Seal
    • Replace
  8. Bleeder Screw
  9. Seal
    • Replace
  10. Connection
  11. O-Rings
    • Replace
  12. Seal
    • Replace
  13. EGR Motor -V338-
  14. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
  15. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
  16. Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor -G62-
  17. Seal
    • Replace
  18. Bolt
    • Tightening specification and sequence, refer to Fig 3.
  19. EGR Pipe
    • From the turbocharger
    • If the screw-type clamp -21- was loosened, then the EGR pipe and the screw-type clamp must always be replaced.
    • Tightening specification and sequence, refer to Fig 3.
  20. Seal
    • Replace
  21. Screw-Type Clamp
    • Replace
    • Tightening specification and sequence, refer to Fig 3.
  22. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
  23. O-Ring
    • Replace
  24. Coolant Connection
  25. Bolt
  26. Screw-Type Clamp
    • Replace
    • Tightening specification and sequence, refer to Fig 2.
  27. Seal
    • Replace

-- Attach the EGR pipe with the seals and the screw-type clamps.

NOTE:

Coat the thread on the bolts with hot bolt paste. For the correct hot bolt paste

Step Bolts/Screw-Type Clamps Tightening Specification
1. -1 and 2- Turn them by hand until the bolt heads are touching
2. -3- Position them as shown in the illustration 2.5 Nm
3. -1 and 2- 9 Nm

NOTE:

The illustration shows the installed position on a vehicle with a turbocharger.

Replace the EGR pipe and the screw-type clamp if the screw-type clamp was loosened.

Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.

-- Attach the EGR pipe with the seals and the screw-type clamps.

NOTE:

Coat the thread on the bolts with hot bolt paste. For the correct hot bolt paste

Step Bolts/Screw-Type Clamps Tightening Specification
1. -2 and 3- Turn them by hand until the bolt heads are touching
2. -1- Position using the tab on the EGR pipe tightening specification.
  • Part number 059 131 548 C: 5 Nm
  • Part number 059 131 548 D: 3.5 Nm
3. -2 and 3- 5 Nm
4. -2 and 3- Tighten an additional 90°
