Upper Left Coolant Pipe, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Empty the coolant circuit, refer to A/C System with Refrigerant R134a.

-- Support the engine in its installed position, refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLED POSITION .

-- Remove the noise insulations, refer to Noise Insulation .

-- Drain the coolant, refer to Draining .

-- Remove the front left and right wheel housing liners, refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Remove the left and right front wheel spoiler, refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows- and the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft, refer to DRIVE AXLE .

-- Disconnect the left and right connector -1- from the front vehicle level sensor -G78- / -G289- and free up the wire -arrow-.

Audi S6/S7: 

NOTE: Ignore item -2-.

-- Remove the nut -1- and remove the bracket with the wiring harness from the subframe.

Audi RS6/RS7:

-- Remove bolt -arrow-, push the bracket with the wiring harness aside.

Continuation for All Vehicles: 

-- Remove the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear push them upward, refer to STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Release the safety catch in direction of -arrow-, push the retainer down and disconnect the connector from -2- from the Power Steering Control Module -J500-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Power Steering Control Module -J500-.

-- Free up the wiring harness.

-- Free up the clip -arrow-.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- and free up the wire.

NOTE: Ignore -1, 2 and 3-.

-- Clamp off and remove the coolant hoses with the Hose Clamps - Up To 25 mm 3094 by loosening the hose clamps -arrows-.

-- Loosen the clamp -1- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- and free up the wire.

-- Disconnect the left and right connectors -1, 2-.

-- Remove the connector -arrow- from the mount, disconnect it, and then guide it through the subframe.

-- Remove engine bracket left and right bolt -arrow-.

Audi RS6/RS7: 

-- Remove the left and right front longitudinal member, refer to Lock Carrier .

Fig 12: Support Subframe Using V.A.G 1383

-- Support the subframe using Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS 6931 as shown in the illustration.

-- Mark the location of the subframe to the longitudinal members using a felt-tip pen.

-- Remove the left and right subframe bolts -1, 2 and 3- in a diagonal sequence.

CAUTION:

The suspension components could be damaged.

  • Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.

-- Lower the subframe using the Engine and Gearbox Jack VAS 6931 just enough so that the upper left coolant tube is accessible, while at the same time paying attention to the clearance for the right electrical cables.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and the nut -2-, and set the refrigerant line to the side.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and then unclip and remove the oil dipstick tube -2- from the intake manifold.

-- Remove the double bolt -1- and the nut -2- and then push the mount -3- and the wiring harness slightly to the side.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the left drive axle heat shield.

-- Free up the wiring harness.

-- Remove the nut -3- and free up the hose clamp.

-- Loosen the clamps -arrows- to remove the coolant hose from the upper left coolant pipe -2-.

-- Unclip the upper left coolant pipe from the mount -1-.
