Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH TWO TURBOCHARGERS
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 / VAS6395A or VAS6395B
- Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Bracket VAS6395 /7
Correct the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Bracket VAS6395 /7 if necessary.
Reworking of the opening -arrow- shown in the image half -A- is not required.
-- If the opening does not exist, rework the bracket Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - Bracket VAS6395 /7 using a file as shown in image half -B-.
Removing
Follow all the rules of cleanliness, refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
-- Remove the engine cover, refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the plenum chamber bulkhead, refer to Bulkhead .
-- Release the cover -3- and swivel it to the side -arrow-.
-- Connect the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 to the positive terminal -2- and to the ground -1- using the Cable Sets VAS6395/2.
The following procedure description uses the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit - E Box VAS6395 /1 or VAS6395 A/1
Depending on the equipment stock in the workshop, the E-Box VAS6395 B/1 can also be used.
The button positions are ordered differently, but the names and functions are the same. (See image)
Procedure for E-Box VAS6395 B/1:
-- Select the software version SW Hella Bi-Turbo using the ↑ -item 5- and ↓ -item 6- buttons.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to confirm the software version.
In this example, Hella software -1- is selected.
Procedure for E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 A/1:
-- Select the software version SW Hella Bi-Turbo using the ↑ -item 5- and ↓ -item 6- buttons.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to confirm the software version.
In this example, Hella software -1- is selected.
If the software version SW Hella Bi-Turbo is not available, perform a software update through the manufacturer of the E-Positioner Service Kit - E-BoxVAS6395 A/1 Contact the corresponding tool provider associated with the importer.
Procedure for Electronic Unit (E-Box) VAS6395/1:
Check the software version of the Electronic Unit (E-Box) VAS6395/1:
Danger of damaging the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-.
- Make sure the correct software is loaded in the Electronic Unit (E-Box)VAS6395/1 before performing the following procedure:
If the correct software is loaded, the following will be displayed on the Electronic Unit (E-Box)VAS6395/1 (2 seconds after the voltage supply is connected):
- 1. >START Bi-Turbo
- 2. NEXT [>]
If the following appears in the display, then incorrect software has been loaded:
- 1. >TEST
- 2. LEARN
or
- 1. >START
- 2. Next
In this case, download the correct software "Hella Bi-Turbo" from "Audi Service Net" under the "Workshop Equipment" category.
Procedure for all E-boxes
-- Disconnect the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- connector.
-- Connect the Cable Sets VAS6395A/2 to the Turbocharger Control Module 2 -J724- and to the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395.
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:
- 1. >START Bi-Turbo
- 2. NEXT [>]
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
- The Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 checks the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range in steps to determine if the end points are being reached. "CHECK" appears in the display.
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:
- [OK]
If "[OK]" appears in the display, then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range is OK.
If "FAULT [OK]" appears in the display, tap the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing several times with a screwdriver handle and then the v button -item 4- to repeat the test.
-- Remove the bolt -1-.
The other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.
-- Attach the Bracket VAS6395/7 to the center opening in the bracket for the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and tighten the bolt to -arrow- 7 Nm.
The centering pins on the Bracket VAS6395 /7 must engage in the bracket opening for the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
- To determine the voltage, the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will check back and forth several times between the stops.
- Then the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- will go into the in installation position.
-- While determining the voltage, tap on the side of the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- housing with the handle of a screwdriver until the following appears in the display:

-- Write down the voltage.
- Specified value for CGQB: 3.3 to 3.7 V.
- Specified value for CVUA, CVUB: 3.7 to 4.2 V.
If "FAULT [OK]" is shown in the display,
- or a voltage value for CGQB is less than 3.3 or greater than 3.7 V
- or a voltage value for CVUA, CVUB is less than 3.7 or greater than 4.2 V
disconnect the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 and repeat the entire procedure Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH TWO TURBOCHARGERS .
-- Disconnect the Cable Sets VAS6395/2 with the adapter from the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-
The voltage supply for the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 must remain connected.
-- Unclip the lock washer.
-- Disengage the coupling rod -4- from the Turbocharger Control Module 1 - J724- and move downward.
-- Remove the screws -1, 2 and 3- and dispose of them.
The other bolts visible in the illustration must not be removed.
-- Remove the old Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- and dispose of it.
-- Install the new Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- in reverse order of removal.
-- Install the new M6 x 15 bolts -1, 2 and 3- with the narrow shaft.
-- Only tighten the bolts by hand.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- must contact the retaining plate without play, but is must be possible to move it by hand.
-- Connect the Cable Sets VAS6395/2 with the adapter to the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-
The coupling rod -4- must not be installed for the next step.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:
- > 1. START Bi-Turbo
- 2. NEXT [>]
-- Select "NEXT" using the ↓ button -item 6-.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
- The Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395 checks the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- adjustment range in steps to determine if the end points are being reached. "CHECK" appears in the display.
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:

If "FAULT" appears in the display, then replace the new Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- again.

- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J274- moves into the installation position.
-- Insert the coupling rod -3-.
-- Install the lock washer -2-.
- The lock washer must engage audibly.
-- Gently push the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- to the left side of the vehicle, until the lever -1- touches the Bracket VAS6395/7.
-- Hold the -J724- in this position.
-- Tighten the bolts -1, 2 and 3- to 5 Nm.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J274- will move back and forth several times between the stops and will be set to the start up voltage.
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:
- X.XXX V (Starting Up Voltage)

If [OK] appears in the display, stop the adjustment Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH TWO TURBOCHARGERS => .
If "CHECK" appears in the display, continue as follows.
Procedure, if "CHECK" appears in the display:
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:

-- Loosen the screws -1, 2 and 3- just enough so that is possible to move the Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- with slight resistance in the direction specified.
- If [<<<] appears in the display, then slightly move the turbocharger control module 1 -J724- to the right side of the vehicle.
- If [>>>] appears in the display, then slightly move the turbocharger control module 1 -J724- to the left side of the vehicle.
-- Tighten the bolts -1, 2 and 3- to 5 Nm.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J274- will move back and forth several times again between the stops and will be set to the start up voltage.

Complete the adjustment:
-- Tighten the bolts -1, 2 and 3- to 10 Nm.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and remove the bracket VAS6395 /7.
-- Re-install the bolt and tighten : Bolt.
-- Press the v button -item 4- to continue.
- The Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- goes to the end points.
If "FAULT" appears in the display, then replace the new Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724- Turbocharger Control Module 1 -J724-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH TWO TURBOCHARGERS => .
Display on the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395:

- The adjustment is complete.
-- Disconnect the connector for the Turbo E-Positioner Service Kit VAS6395.
Assembly is performed in reverse order.
