A/C Compressor Input Shaft, Loosening And Tightening

NOTE:

If the drive plate overload protection triggers, check the A/C compressor for ease of motion before replacing the drive unit. If the A/C compressor creates friction, replace it completely.

Loosening

WARNING:

There is a risk of scalding from hot steam and coolant.

The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm.
To reduce the pressure, cover the coolant reservoir cap with several cloths and then open it carefully.

-- Open the coolant reservoir cap -arrow-.

-- Turn the front wheels so that they are straight.

-- Remove the engine mount, refer to ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CEUC and CRDB), ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPNB) or ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CGXB and CTUA). .

-- Remove the bolt -arrows-.

-- Remove the guide tube -1- for the oil dipstick from the upper part of the oil pan.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the left engine support.

NOTE:

For the sake of clarity, this figure shows the engine support with the coolant pipe removed. However, the coolant pipe remains installed.

Depending on the version of the coolant pipe, it may be necessary to loosen the coolant pipe on the engine and press it slightly to the side to remove the engine support.

-- Hold the A/C compressor input shaft -A- with a wrench and turn the A/C compressor drive unit -B- in direction of -arrow C-.

NOTE:

Do not turn the input shaft -A-.

The input shaft can be slid into drive wheel through the boot -E- after loosening the threaded connection.

Tighten

Tightening Specifications

Refer to OVERVIEW - A/C COMPRESSOR POWER UNIT, VEHICLES WITH 8-CYLINDER FSI/TFSI ENGINE

-- Hold the A/C compressor input shaft -A- with a wrench and turn the A/C compressor drive unit -B- in direction of -arrow D-.

-- After tightening the A/C compressor input shaft, check the position of the boot -E-.

-- Install the engine support and the engine mount, refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLED POSITION (CGXB and CTUA) and ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CGXB and CTUA), ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLED POSITION (CPNB) and ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPNB), ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLED POSITION (CEUC and CRDB) and ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CEUC and CRDB) .
