Left Upper Timing Chain Cover, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Remove the old sealant from the sealing surfaces on the timing chain cover.

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating the lubricating system.

  • Cover open parts of engine.
WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove any remaining sealant on the timing chain cover -1- and cylinder head using, for example, a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

NOTE:

Pay attention to the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 1.5 mm).

-- Install the seal -1-.

-- Apply a small amount of sealant to the transitions between the cylinder head and the lower timing chain cover -arrow- as shown in the illustration.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

  • Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

-- Apply sealant beads -1 and 2- to the clean sealing surface of the left timing chain cover as shown in the illustration.

NOTE:

The timing chain covers must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

-- Position the timing chain cover and tighten the bolts. Refer to figure in Tightening Specifications .

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- Install the left cylinder head cover. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER LEFT AND RIGHT, INSTALLING AND REMOVING, Vehicles With A Turbocharger .

-- Install the particulate filter. Refer to PARTICULATE FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH FWD .
