Lower Timing Chain Cover - Tightening Specification And Sequence: Vehicles With Magnesium Oil Pan Upper Section

Magnesium Oil Pan Upper Identifying Feature

NOTE:

Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the aluminum bolts when installing the lower timing chain cover.

Do not use aluminum bolts to tighten the lower timing chain cover to the cylinder block.
Therefore use four M6x20 steel bolts to tighten the lower timing chain cover as instructed as follows.

-- Tighten the bolts in nine steps as follows:

Step 1 and 2:

Step	Bolts	Tightening Specification
1.		Attach the lower timing chain cover with the sealant and the sealing pieces to the cylinder block
2.	-1, 2, 3, and 4-	Tighten the M6x20 steel bolt to 9 Nm

Step: 3 to 6:

Step	Bolts	Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
3.	-1 to 20-	3 Nm
4.	-1 to 20-	3 Nm - this measurement takes the setting behavior into account for the lower timing chain cover.
5.	-1 to 6-	8 Nm
6.	-1 to 20-	90° additional turn

Steps 7 to 9:

Step	Bolts	Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
7.	-1, 2, 3, and 4-	Remove the M6x20 steel bolts
8.	-1, 2, 3, and 4-	Insert the aluminum bolts and tighten to 3 Nm
9.	-1, 2, 3, and 4-	Turn the aluminum bolts a 90° additional turn
