Overview - Cylinder Head: Notes

NOTE:
The cylinder head for cylinder bank 2 (left) is shown in the illustration.
- Cylinder Head Gasket
- Always replace:
- Vehicles With A Turbocharger.
- Identification. Refer to figure in Head Gasket .
- Installed position: the part number faces the cylinder head
- Change the coolant and engine oil after replacing
- Always replace:
- Cylinder Head
- Only set the removed cylinder head down on a foam pad. Otherwise the glow plugs can be damaged.
- Removing:
- Vehicles With A Turbocharger.
- Installing. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, INSTALLING, ALL ENGINES .
- Check for distortion. Refer to figure in Check For Distortion Using VAS6075 .
- It is not permitted to rework the cylinder heads on TDI engines
- Change the coolant and engine oil after replacing

- O-rings
- Always replace
- Banjo Bolt
- Tightening specification OVERVIEW - COOLANT PIPES (13) .
- Coolant Lines
- Bolt
- Tightening specification OVERVIEW - COOLANT PIPES (15) .
- Banjo Bolt
- Tightening specification OVERVIEW - COOLANT PIPES (16) .
- O-rings
- Always replace
- Bolt
- 23 Nm
- Engine Lifting Eye
- Bolt
- Tightening specification and sequence. Refer to OVERVIEW - CYLINDER HEAD .
- Always replace
- Loosen the cylinder head bolts in the sequence -1 to 8-.
