-- Remove the noise insulation -arrow-.
-- Remove the :T40264/3 .
Risk of damaging valves and piston crowns.
- In the course of the following steps, the crankshaft must not stand with any piston at "TDC".
-- Turn the crankshaft 40° opposite engine rotation out of the "TDC" position using the :T40263 and :T40272 -arrow-.
Cylinder Bank 1 (Right):
-- Remove the right coolant pipe. Refer to RIGHT COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and press the fuel line -1- forward.
-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- and free up the wiring harness.
-- Attach both of the camshaft adjusters without camshaft timing chains to the cylinder head and then loosely screw on the bolts -1 and 2-.
-- Position the :T40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the right exhaust camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the :T40264/1 , the exhaust camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the exhaust camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the left bolt -left arrow- from the :T40264/1 .
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the exhaust camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Position the :T40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the left intake camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the :T40264/1 , the intake camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the intake camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the right bolt -right arrow- from the :T40264/1 .
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the intake camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Remove the :T40264/1 .
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- by counterholding with the wrench and the :T40269 . Remove the camshaft adjuster.
Cylinder Bank 2 (Left)
-- Disconnect the connectors:
3 - For Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N318-
4 - For Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 -N208-
-- Move the electrical wiring harness to the side.
Ignore items -1 and 2-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and move the adjusting element vacuum pipe to the side.
The illustration shows the Installed position on an Audi S6/S7.
Do not remove ball head -2-.
Ignore item -1-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and press the fuel line forward.
Do not change the shape of the fuel line.
-- Attach both of the camshaft adjusters without camshaft timing chains to the cylinder head and then loosely screw on the bolts -1 and 2-.
-- Position the :T40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the left intake camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the :T40264/2 , the intake camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the intake camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the left bolt -left arrow- from the :T40264/2 .
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the intake camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Position the :T40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the left exhaust camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the :T40264/2 , the exhaust camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the exhaust camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the right bolt -right arrow- from the :T40264/2 .
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the exhaust camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Remove the :T40264/2 .
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- by counterholding with the wrench and the :T40269 . Remove the camshaft adjuster.
Continuation for Both Cylinder Banks:
-- Loosen and remove the bolts in the following sequence: -21 to 1-.
-- Carefully loosen the camshaft housing from the bonding, for this turn the M6x30 bolts evenly in the threaded holes -arrows-.
The left camshaft housing is shown in the illustration.
Proceed in the same way with right camshaft housing.
-- Mark the assignment of the camshafts for installation later.
-- Remove the camshafts and place them on a clean surface.
