Catalytic Converter, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With Two Turbochargers: Removing
When working on the whole exhaust system:
- Follow the safety precautions when working on the exhaust system. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
-- Remove the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear and then push the splines into each other. Refer to STEERING COLUMN .
-- Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to EXHAUST PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH TWO TURBOCHARGERS. .
-- Remove the heated oxygen sensor. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 2 -G448-. Refer to Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 2 -G448-, INSTALLING AND REMOVING, VEHICLES WITH TWO TURBOCHARGERS .
-- Remove the subframe crossbrace. Refer to SUBFRAME .
The suspension components could be damaged.
- Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
-- Remove bolts -arrows- and then remove the heat shield.
-- Remove the left longitudinal member bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.
-- If equipped remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Disconnect the connector -1-, and set aside the Transmission Fluid Cooling Valve -N509- with the coolant hoses -2- still attached.
-- Remove the bolts and nuts -arrows-, and remove the heat shield -1-.
-- Remove the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 3 -G495- -1- and pressure pipe -3- for the Differential Pressure Sensor -G505-.
Ignore item -2-.
Vehicles with an SCR System
-- Remove the NOx Sensor -G295- -arrow- free up and set to the left side.
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Remove the nuts -arrows-.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and remove the bracket.
Vehicles with an SCR System
-- Remove the left driveshaft cover -1- in the wheel housing.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the left drive axle heat shield.
-- Remove the nuts -1 and 2-. If required disengage the catalytic converter with a second technician from the turbocharger.
-- To improve the accessibility for the next step, push the catalytic converter to the side.
- Position -1- = Catalytic Converter Heater 1 -Z119-
- Position -2- = Catalytic Converter Heater 2 -Z120-
-- Remove the connection for the Catalytic Converter Heater 1 -Z119- and Catalytic Converter Heater 2 -Z120- with the : T40317 .
