Condensation Water Drain, Checking
The A/C system condensation water hoses -A and B- are clipped on the left and right of the center tunnel.
-- Driver side: Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Passenger side: Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the cover under the instrument panel. Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER .
-- Carefully fold back the carpet near the condensation water drain hose far enough so that the condensation water drain hose is visible.
-- The bracket -A- must be completely clipped into the opening in the body -D-.
-- The condensation water drain -B- must be seated correctly on the bracket and sits with pretension on the body -C-.
- If there is pretensioning is not enough, seal the area between the body and the bracket, for example with silicone adhesive. Refer to the Parts information.
-- If the bracket with the condensation water drain hose is positioned correctly in the body opening, then the condensation water drain hose must be checked for debris.
-- Remove the condensation water drain hose. Refer to CONDENSATION WATER DRAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Check the distance between the condensation water drain opening -1- and the heat shield -3-.
- There must be a sufficient distance (dimension -x-) present, so that the condensation water can drain out of the condensation water drain hose -2-.
-- Check the A/C condenser water drain for dirt and if necessary, clean using a piece of wire.
- The cross section of the condensation water drain hose must not be constricted (pressed together).
For complaints of moisture in the passenger compartment, check the following components in addition to the condensation water drain:
- Water drain for the plenum chamber. Refer to PLENUM CHAMBER WATER DRAIN, CHECKING .
- Check the cowl panel trim and the plenum chamber cover for damage and correct installation. Refer to Bulkhead .
- Dust and pollen filter for soiling and correct installation. Refer to DUST AND POLLEN FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Forced air extraction in the luggage compartment. Refer to PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FORCED AIR EXTRACTION, CHECKING .
- Activation and function of the air recirculation door (for example, in the "output diagnostic test mode") using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
If there are complaints regarding humidity in the passenger compartment which only appear when the A/C compressor is switched on and under certain climatic conditions (check the temperature of the air coming out of the vents from the evaporator). Refer to ICE FORMATION ON EVAPORATOR, LOCALIZING MALFUNCTION, VEHICLES WITHOUT A HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM and use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- Read the measured value for the Evaporator Vent Temperature Sensor -G263-.
-- Check the vent temperature at the evaporator under conditions of use described by the customer or at the following setting on the control head:
"Basic" Version A/C System:
-- Adjust the setting on the Climatronic Control Module -J255- control head.
- "Auto" mode, A/C compressor turned on (the indicator lamp is illuminated in the buttons -1 and 6-), dials -2 and 5- for the temperature setting set all the way to "cold".
- Intermediate fresh air blower speed at a voltage of approximately 7V on the Fresh Air Blower -V2-, fresh air mode (the indicator lamp in the recirculation button -8- is off), instrument panel vents are opened.
"Comfort" Version A/C System
-- Adjust the setting on the Climatronic Control Module -J255- control head.
- "Auto" mode, A/C compressor turned on (the indicator lamp is illuminated in the buttons -2, 4 and 9-), dials -1 and 5- for the temperature setting set all the way to "cold".
- Intermediate fresh air blower speed at a voltage of approximately 7V on the Fresh Air Blower -V2-, fresh air mode (the indicator lamp in the recirculation button -6- is off), instrument panel vents are opened.
For All Vehicles
-- If the Evaporator Vent Temperature Sensor -G263- measured value is too low (colder than 0 °C (32 °F)or a long period of time when the ambient temperature is above 0 °C (32 °F)) or too high (even though the A/C system is working correctly, for example: higher than 10 °C (50 °F)), follow the procedure for checking the cooling output.
