Pinpoint Test D : IWE Solenoid - Electrical Fault
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Lincoln Navigator. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- D1 CHECK FOR TCCM DTCS
- Enter the following diagnostic mode: TCCM KOEO Self-Test.
Are any DTCs present?
Yes For DTC C1979:11, GO to D3. For DTC C1979:12, GO to D2. For DTC C1979:13, GO to D4 For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Chart: TCCM . No This diagnostic test does not apply. GO to Pinpoint Test A - D2 CHECK THE IWE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect IWE Solenoid C1291 .
- Disconnect Transfer Case C2371A .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1291-2 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. No GO to D4 - D3 CHECK THE IWE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect IWE Solenoid C1291 .
- Disconnect TCCM C2371A .
- Ignition ON
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1291-2 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to D4 No REPAIR the circuit. - D4 CHECK THE IWE SOLENOID RESISTANCENOTE: If the temperatures (either ambient or in the engine compartment) are exceptionally high, a higher than normal resistance reading could result. A lower temperature could result in a lower resistance reading.
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect IWE Solenoid C1291 .
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
Pin 1, component side.
Pin 2, component side.
Is the resistance between 44 and 70 ohms?
Yes GO to D5 No INSTALL a new IWE solenoid. CLEAR the DTCs. - D5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE IWE SOLENOID
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect TCCM C2371A .
- Ignition ON
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1291-1 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to D6 No CHECK BJB fuse 29 (10A). If OK, REPAIR the open circuit. If not OK, Refer to the Wiring Diagram Information to identify possible causes of the circuit short. CLEAR the DTCs. - D6 CHECK THE IWE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect IWE Solenoid C1291 .
- Disconnect TCCM C2371A .
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to D7 No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. - D7 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCCM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCCM Connectors..
- Check for the following:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Connect TCCM Connectors and make sure they are seated and latched correctly..
- Enter the following diagnostic mode: TCCM KOEO Self-Test.
Did the DTC reset?
Yes INSTALL a new TCCM. REFER to: Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of the connector or pin issues.
