Front Passenger Airbag Unit With Igniter, Removing And Installing: Removing
- Follow all pyrotechnic components safety precautions, refer to PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components, refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, STORING, TRANSPORTING AND DISPOSING .
- Follow the allocation of the airbag unit to the instrument panel, refer to the Parts information.
-- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on, refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING (A3 / A3 CABRIOLET) .
-- Remove the glove compartment, refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Unclip the wires from the instrument panel support.
-- Remove the bolt -2-.
-- Disengage the support -1- at the instrument panel -arrow- and remove it.
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
-- Release the connector lock -2- with a small screwdriver -arrow-.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the Front Passenger Airbag Igniter 1 -N131-.
Secure the airbag unit from falling.
-- Remove the nuts -1 and 2-.
-- Remove the passenger airbag -3- downward.
Set the airbag down so the impact cushion faces upward.
