Undamaged Rear Window, Removing, A3 And SPORTBACK

• The roof spoiler is removed. Refer to SPOILER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
• The rear lid trim panel is removed. Refer to LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM PANELS .

-- Disconnect rear window defroster and window antenna connectors and secure to center of window with adhesive tape.

-- Unroll with the :VAS6452/1  approximately 6.5 meters (7.1 yards) of cutting wire (approximately six turns) and cut it.

-- Poke the awl -2- through the bead of adhesive from the inside to the outside as illustrated.

-- Cover the area where the awl comes out under the body flange with adhesive tape -1- to prevent damaging it.

-- Feed both cutting wire ends -3- into the awl and pull it in.

• The wire ends must not be twisted on the adhesive bead pass-through -arrow-.

-- Route the cutting wire around the rear window under the window glass as shown.

-- Mount both reel devices on the inside of the windshield as shown.

-- Insert an additional guide awl into the adhesive and secure it to the windshield with the suction cup as illustrated to make sure that the wire runs as close to the windshield as possible.

-- Insert the cutting wire end -1- into the reel device -2-.

-- Tension the cutting wire using the spool -1- and insert the plastic film -2- taken from the :VAS6452  to protect the wire and the rear shelf.

-- Cut the first section at the lower window edge free.

-- Cut out the window glass at the bottom of the >>D-pillar<<.

-- Position the guide ring as shown and cut upward farther in the area of the D-pillar.

-- Relocate the reel device and the guide awl as shown and cut out the section at the bottom of the opposite >>D-pillar<<.

-- Move the reel device as illustrated and install the guide awl.

-- Move upward to cut the window glass free.

-- Move the reel device as shown.

-- Move the window glass over to the left corner of the window and cut the window free.
