Overview - Evaporator Housing

NOTE:
There are different versions and various manufacturers of the heater and A/C units. Individual components of the different heater and A/C units are similar but not the same. Interchanging components from different manufacturers is not permitted.
A "Valeo" evaporator housing is shown in the following illustration. Refer to HEATER AND A/C UNIT IDENTIFICATION for the different manufacturers' distinguishing characteristics of the heater and A/C units.

- Evaporator
- Only with A/C system
- Check the foam seals for damage and that they are correctly bonded
- Removing and installing. Refer to EVAPORATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- O-Ring Seal
- Always replace. For the correct version.
- Coat with refrigerant oil before installing. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT SEALS .
- Retaining Plate
- Only with A/C system
- To secure the refrigerant line and secure the expansion valve
- Expansion Valve
- Only with A/C system
- Overview. Refer to OVERVIEW - CONDENSER, A/C COMPRESSOR, REFRIGERANT LINES AND EXPANSION VALVE

There are different versions depending on the refrigerant (R134a or R1234yf).
- Bolt
- Only with A/C system
- Tightening specification -item 22) MECHANICALLY DRIVEN A/C COMPRESSOR, REFRIGERANT LINE, EXPANSION VALVE, (ON VEHICLES WITHOUT A HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM). -
- Seal/Insulation
- Heat insulation for expansion valve
- The seal for the plenum chamber rear wall does not have an opening for the expansion valve or it is sealed with a foam body on vehicles without an A/C system.
- O-ring Seal
- Only with A/C system
- Replacing. For the correct version.
- Coat with refrigerant oil before installing. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT SEALS .
- Bolt
- 1.5 Nm
- Quantity: 8
- Evaporator Housing Upper Section
- Honeycomb
- Only installed on vehicles with a heater (without an A/C system)
