Head Curtain Airbag With Igniter, Removing And Installing, Sedan: Removing
- Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
- Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, STORING, TRANSPORTING AND DISPOSING (PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS) .
-- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
-- Remove the headliner. Refer to HEADLINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolt -2- for the head curtain airbag strap from the A-pillar.
-- Unclip the clips -1- from the A-pillar.
-- Disengage The Clips -1, 2, And 3- Head Curtain Airbag Retaining Tab Clips From The Body.
-- To do so, forcefully push the :VAS1978/17 with the >>spoon<< -arrow- all the way into the opening -A-, as shown in the illustration.
-- At the same time pull the left side of the clip out from the body.
-- Pull the :VAS1978/17 back out and pay attention that the clips on the loosed side do not re-engage.
-- Turn the :VAS1978/17 180°and repeat the procedure in the opening -B-.
DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Pull out the connector lock -2- -arrow- and disconnect the connector -1-.
-- Remove the bolt -3- from the head curtain airbag.
-- Disengage the head curtain airbag -1- from the mount on the body -arrow B- and push rearward.
-- Disengage the rear head curtain airbag from the mount on the body -arrow A- and remove.
