Head Curtain Airbag With Igniter, Removing And Installing, A3/A3 SPORTBACK: Installing
- Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
- Always follow the head curtain airbag installation procedure.
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting a connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". For example, this can be done by briefly touching the door striker.
-- Engage the head curtain airbag -1- at the rear in the mount on the body -arrow A- and push forward.
-- Engage the front head curtain airbag in the mount on the body -arrow B-.
-- Tighten the bolt -3-.
-- Connect the connector -1- on the head curtain airbag igniter.
-- Install the connector lock -2- -arrow-. While doing this, the connector is pushed into the head curtain airbag igniter and locks into place.
-- Install the clips for the head curtain airbag in the following sequence: -1 and 2-. They must audibly clip into the body.
-- Make sure the "black line" -3- is visible over the entire length. This will ensure that the head curtain airbag is NOT twisted.
-- Fasten the bolt -2- for the head curtain airbag limiting strap to the A-pillar.
-- Clip the clips -1- onto the body.
If it was removed because of an accident, replace the clips.
Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:
Make sure the connectors are installed all the way and engage audibly.
Make sure the wires do not get caught.
The ignition must be on when connecting the battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle interior when connecting the battery.
-- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
Repairing pyrotechnic components (for example the airbag and seat belt tensioner) incorrectly increases the risk of injuries due to unintentional deployments when the ignition is switched on.
- If the ignition is not switched on after the battery is reconnected - >>indicator lamps in the instrument cluster do not light up<< - the ignition (key/button) may only be switched on when the driver seat is positioned all the way back.
If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- indicates a fault, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
