Headliner, Removing And Installing, A3 SPORTBACK: Removing

Versions Equipped With A Sliding Sunroof:

-- Open the sliding sunroof -1- all the way.

-- Open the sun shade -2- about ² /₃ .

-- To avoid dirtying the headliner, clean the :T40233  .

-- Push the :T40233  between the cover frame -2- for the sunroof opening and the headliner.

-- Release the cover frames using the :80-200  one after the other from the brackets -1- -arrows- as shown in the image.

Continuation For All Vehicles: 

-- Remove the A-pillar upper trim panels. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A3/A3 SPORTBACK, NOT A3 E-TRON .

-- Remove the upper B-pillar trim panels. Refer to UPPER B-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A3 SPORTBACK/SEDAN .

-- Remove the C-pillar trim panels. Refer to C-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A3 SPORTBACK .

-- Remove the D-pillar trim panels. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A3 SPORTBACK .

-- Remove The Front Roof Module. Refer to FRONT INTERIOR LAMP -W1-, REPLACING (FRONT ROOF MODULE) / OVERVIEW - ROOF TRIM PANEL CONTROLS (For the Front Interior Lamp -W1- with an LED bulb, the entire front roof module must be replaced if one of the LEDs is faulty.)

-- Vehicle versions with a front camera: remove the front camera trim. Refer to REMOVING - INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR WITH OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT: .

-- Remove the vanity mirror light. Refer to DRIVER/FRONT PASSENGER VANITY MIRROR LAMP -W20- / -W14-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING /OVERVIEW - ROOF TRIM PANEL CONTROLS .

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the sun visor center support. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the headrests HEADREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Move the front seats into the deepest and most forward position and position the backrest as far toward the front as it will go.

-- Remove the left 1/3 rear seat backrest. Refer to REAR SEAT BACKREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the expanding clips -1- for the bracket for the right D-pillar trim using the :T40172 A  and :T40172/2  .

-- Disengage the bracket -2- for the D-pillar trim on the body -arrow- and remove it.

-- Remove the rear lid seal -3-.

-- Unclip the rear headliner at the clips -1 and 3- from the body -arrows- using the :80 - 200  .

-- Unclip the rear headliner at the centering pin -2- from the body.

-- Lower the headliner -1- at the left side of the vehicle -arrow A- and at the same time remove carefully rearward -arrow B-.

-- Carefully remove the headliner -1- from the rear lid opening -arrow A,- to do this tip the left side downward -arrow B-.

-- Remove the headliner -1- through the lid opening -arrow A- as shown.

-- To do this carefully guide the headliner at the edges -arrow B- through the rear lid opening.
