SUBFRAME, Securing: Notes
Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required
- Assembly Tool, Subframe Alignment :T10486A or Locating Pins :T10486/1
- Assembly Tool, Subframe Alignment - Locating Pins :T10486A/1
- Locating Pins :T10486/2
- Engine/Gearbox Jack :VAG1383A
- Torque Wrench 1332 40-200 Nm :VAG1332
For certain assemblies on the vehicle, subframe or complete front axle must be removed. The original position of the subframe to the body can be maintained with assistance of the :T10486A or :T10486/1 . The :T10486A or :T10486/1 must always be installed just before lowering the subframe or the complete front axle. After completing repair work, road test must be performed; if steering wheel is crooked, vehicle alignment must be performed. Refer to VEHICLE ALIGNMENT .
:T10486A/1 (quantity 2) are part of the :T10486A . If the is already in the service operation, then only the supplement from the :T10486/1 (quantity 2) are required.
If the :T10486/1 is not already in the service operation, then the :T10486A is used. This has four :T10486/1 and two :T10486/2 The :T10486/2 are not necessary for the following steps.
-- Remove The Front And Rear Noise Insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING / OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
Audi A3 Cabrio:
-- Remove The Left And Right Underbody Panel. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS / UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows- and then remove the diagonal brace -1-.
Vehicles With High Voltage System:
-- Loosen The Left And Right Underbody Panels To The Center Of The Vehicle And Lower. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS / UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Continuation For All Vehicles:
-- Place the :VAS6931 -2- under the subframe.
-- Place for example a block of wood -1- between :VAS6931 and subframe.
-- Clean the :T10486A or :T10486/1 threads if necessary.
-- Loosen the bolts -2 to 5- for the left and right support -arrows-.
There is a risk of damaging the subframe threaded connection threads on the body.
- The subframe bolts on the body must not be loosened or tightened with an impact wrench.
- Always install all bolts by hand for the first few turns.
- To secure the subframe, :T10486A or :T10486/1 must be screwed in one after the other at positions -1, 6, 7, and 8-.
The :T10486/1 or :T10486A may only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm, since otherwise the threads of the locating bolts will be damaged.
Secure the Front Subframe:
-- Replace the bolts of the subframe one after the other on both sides of the vehicle using :T10486A or :T10486/1 -arrow- and tighten them to 20 Nm.
Secure the Rear Subframe:
-- Remove the support bolts, remove the subframe bolt, and remove the support. Install the :T10486A or :T10486/1 -arrow- and tighten to 20 Nm.
-- Repeat this procedure on the opposite side.
- Securing the subframe is finished, after all upper indicated bolts are replaced by locating pins one after the other from :T10486A or :T10486/1 .
- Position of front axle is now secured.
Remove the :T10486A or :T10486/1 .
The removal is reverse of installation,Noting The Following:
-- Only remove one locating pin and replace this with a bolt.
- After installation, position of steering wheel must be checked with a road test. If the steering wheel is crooked, the wheels must be aligned. Refer to VEHICLE ALIGNMENT .
